Default backup the phone

Hey, it looks like i've got a speaker issue and will be trading out the phone for a new one. I have done quite a bit of work installing apps, tweaking settings, uploading pics/music...is there anyway to back this up so I can put it all on the new phone or am I better off starting fresh.

Right now you'll be better off starting off fresh. Of course your contacts will be backed up in gmail, but apps you need to redownload.

I use My Backup Pro from Rerware, it's only five bucks and works perfect. It will allow you to backup applications, contacts, call log, bookmarks, SMS\MMS, calendar, settings, home shortcuts, alarms, dictionary, music playlists, etc. They do have a 30 day free trial to try out.

Question... Is there a way we can test this app, I mean is there a safe way to do a restore on the phone, or confirm that the backups its doing are going to actually work if there comes a time when we need to do a restore?
