Default How do you use .mp3 ringtones instead of the defaults?

I can't figure out how to assign .mp3 ringtones. When I go to the ringtone screen all i can choose is the default tones.

You're going to sound & display>Phone ringtone, right? When you press phone ringtone, it should give you a pop-up to choose between "android system" and "select music".

No, not on 2.1

What you do:

-Plug your Evo in to your computer
-Select "Disk Drive"
-Open up the storage for your phone, through your computer
-Copy music into either "Music" or "Media>Audio" ( I dont think it really matters where you put it)
-Unmount your Evo, OR change the USB action to "Charge Only" ( this is to remount SD card)
-Go to "Music"
-Scroll to your recently imported song in "Now Playing"
-Hit "Menu"
-and then "Set as Ringtone" ; you will now be given an option to set for phone or individual contact.

Seems like a drawn out explanation, but when you do the music files in bulk, its not bad. And once youve set a ringtone, it remains in the permanent "Ringtone" section of your phone (unless you delete it of course)

I wonder why it doesn't work on the Evo? Sense UI maybe?

I looked in the directories of the SD card and the "Ringtone" folder under "Media" is gone :/

figures.

Might be the whole Sense UI thing....

But, good thing there's still a way to use custom ring tones.

True. It might be accessible with sense turned off. Ah well, this is what it looks like anyway..

This is very easy. Go to your music. Find the song you want. Long press on the song and then choose "use as ringtone" It's very easy! If you want to crop your songs and save them as ringtones just use the app "Ringdroid"

Just get Zedge in the marketplace, and you can download ringtones and wallpaper that are already customized for the EVO. Or like eversontx stated, you can use ringdroid found in the marketplace to crop the mp3 and make it a ringtone of your own.
