Default Lookout Mobile Security

My phone was stolen on my way to New York this weekend. Once I realized it, I wanted to "Nuke" my phone because I have some "classified" info on it. I had to find out the hard way that Lookout doesn't support wiping Android phones.

User beware!

LOL! Nah, just the average Joe trying to make a buck and use free apps. What pisses me off is the fact that the "lack of Nuke option for Android" isn't clearly mentioned on the site.

What a screw in the hip!

While it doesn't do you any good now, might I suggest in the future using Where's My Droid and Antivirus? With Where's My Droid, you can borrow someone else's phone (or find a website I suppose) and send a text to your phone, which will then text back its GPS location (lat and long coords) which you can then use Google Maps to find your phone. You can also set it to disable a silenced ringer, if its on, and text your phone to make it jingle for you to help you find it.

While I can't vouch for how well it works, Antivirus has FindR option, which "Joins the lost and theft recovery service. allows admin to remotely secure this phone." Haven't read up yet on how it all works, but it might be a viable option. It also allows you to put a lost message on the screen on the off chance some honest citizen finds it and wants to return it to you.

I'd want to Nuke mine too.... so I could kill the person who stole my phone.

Your poor Evo. I never even leave mine on the table anymore when we're out at dinner. I'm hearing of so many stolen Evo's I'm getting paranoid with mine.

I am using Mobile Defense Beta. So far every time I have tried I've been able to locate my phone. The Beta offers a lock option as well as a locate. Not sure about nuking it, but the full version may have other features when it available.

Lookout will find your phone, show you where it is on a map, and make it scream to show you who has it. Find my droid will do it also but from another mobile phone. Track it down within 50 feet then make it scream for daddy. What more could you want. The only way I know of to wipe data is the data on a simcard which CDMA doesn't use.

I downloaded Lookout after reading your article, I registered, went to the website and it says no such email. So I tried to unistall to reinstall and it will not uninstall? Any suggestions?

I have switched from using Antivirus and MyBackup Pro to lookout. It appears to be a much more solid product, and the guys at Android Central highly recommend it. Since my bad experience with MyBackup Pro (which sucks cuz I paid for it), I've been looking for something better. This seems to be it. It does more, had the location finder/siren in case of loss, and has the antivirus built-in.

No, it doesn't erase the data on your phone if its lost, but with a lock screen on, I doubt that's much of an issue. At least for us non-guvment types.
