Default Apps Running On Their Own

Newbie here (new to Android and EVO). My EVO is not even a week old. Quick question about apps/widgets running on their own...I find that I will kill most of the tasks I have running with the Advanced Task Killer. I may set my phone down and come back 15mins later to find there are a bunch of apps/widgets running that I never started. What's up with that?

In order to free up space, is it possible to uninstall some of the pre-loaded apps without voiding warranty?

Thanks very much.

Task Killers don't work well with the latest version of Android. It drains more battery than it helps. The apps aren't actually running, they're just pre-loaded in stand-by mode, so when you want to use them, they start up faster. Nothing you can do about the stock apps unless you root. But the Android system will automatically kill them if it needs the memory. Its pretty good at handling it.

i'm new to the site and also to the android world, my phone runs Froyo Android 2.2. when i launch app killer, it displays a list of apps running (or services?) and it includes, Facebook(not the htc one), yahoo messenger, lookout, fring, sprint navigation, the weather channel, astro, qik and memory booster lite; among others that are ok that are running. note that this are apps i have not lunch some of them i dont mind been running, some of them i installed and i wanted to know how to not make them auto run if not launch by me. thanks.

Unfortunately, you cannot stop them from running in the background or remove them from the phone without rooting. Read more about how Android manages apps and why task killers don't work (btw, they aren't actually running, they're sort of laying in wait to be used):
