Default Is my device rooted?

Whats good everyone? Maybe you super tech savvy kids can help me with this. Everyone has been mentioning to me about the free wifi program for the Evo...but I have to Root the phone first. I am currently running on 2.2 Froyo...went to the xda site where they showed you how to root the phone...i did that...or atleast thought i did it...but some apps i try to install say my device is not rooted...how do i know for sure that my device is rooted?

I guess if you downloaded "Shoot Me" and it worked...that would tell you.

haha funny you mention that app but that particular app and the wifi tether where the two apps that were giving me the "YOUR NOT ROOTED" shpeal....**** it...i followed the directions carefully too...anything you can think of that i might have done wrong there? I thought i was Rooted because i was able to "side load" a whole bunch of other stuff i was told you had to be rooted for...

To be honest I havent even rooted my own phone yet. Besides removing the 30fps cap and using Shoot Me, there really isnt anything I need it to be rooted for. I may take the plunge soon just to check it out. Did it many times with my Pre...but there were a lot more advantages to rooting that phone.

Unrevoked doesn't permanently unlock the Nand if you're using anything prior to Unrevoked 3.2 or 3.21 (Froyo build). Word is it will with the new Froyo root. However, that should still allow you root access for programs. What it doesn't do is allow you to remove the stock apps. So if it's hollering no root when running a root required app, it failed somewhere.

Just out of curiosity, are you running Froyo or Eclair?

I got my Evo on launch so it was Eclair originally then did the over the air update too Froyo....

Sidenote though...i finally got it too root...essentially i did the first root with unrevoked minus the 2.2 update so that brought me from Froyo back to 2.1....and then from there i used SimpleRoot and that fully rooted the phone since unrevoked only did partial...i know it sounds a lil more complicated but thats what worked for me...there might have been a simpler way...now my next question would be how do i remove the Sprint apps and whats a good navigation app to download

The only navigation app I use is free, and it gets the job done. It comes free with Google maps
