First off I went from having a Samsung Rant a year and half ago and finally got a smartphone the EVO 4G. I really loved it and wondered why I'd waited so long to get an app phone. I loved almost everything about it, but an unfortunate accident with a shopping cart crushed the screen and I was ready to use my insurance and get a replacement even though I was up for a new phone (I saw no reason to switch from a phone I loved to a new one yet) I found out radioshack was selling the E3d for $99 one dollar cheaper then my insurance deductible, so I thought it was a no brainer. I've had it for 3 days now and I love this phone (with the exception of the speaker volume), every change they made seems to be so much better. It just seems like a very streamlined version of the old EVO, my wife is already tired of me telling her "Oh look what else it does".

But after reading these boards I get the feeling it has so many flaws. I know some people are just saying they aren't going to upgrade because they are still under contract and can't without paying extra money to do so. But after reading so many comments from actual owners who had 2 or 3 of them and went back to the old EVO I have to wonder. Did I make a foolish rushed mistake? I really like this new EVO, and would hate to go back, but if this truly is a sub par phone I'd like to know now so I don't get so hooked on all of the great new features I'm still discovering.

Things I miss: Louder speakers
                          Flashlight with 3 brightness settings
Up, down, foward, and back buttons on the keyboard
Kick stand, kind of (but I know they have cases with them now)

That's about it so far, and are things I can live without.

**update on flashlight** for those of you who just used the flashlight app from the Android marketplace and don't like it because its not as good as the one on the old EVO. Here is a link to put the original on your E3d: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/12223883/Flashlight.apk  Just make sure you change your settings to allow 3rd party apps.

**2nd update* Still loving this my phone and I made the impossible happen today. My wife, who always hated my smart phone, couldn't understand how to use it, and had a 2 year old basic phone got her first Evo. Short story, her phone died and she wasn't eligible for an up grade for another 14 days. She had to borrow my phone for only 2 days for work. I went into the store to buy an EVO shift for her and she said no, I want the 3d because it had a larger screen. I was shocked because she is so against technology, but I guess spending 2 days with my phone convinced her. But now I have the down side of always having to field multiple ridiculous questions from her on how to do something! But I brought another to the dark side away from iPhone Smiley

I think I'd base it off your own experience.  I enjoy mine very much, and I haven't had any problems with it to speak of.  You have to remember that forums like these, by their nature, are going to have more people with problems than without.

It's not without it's flaws, but if you're eligible for an upgrade, then I would recommend it.

My flashlight app still has 3 brightness settings. There are a large number of keyboards you can get in the Market. And my speaker seems just fine to me.

Make sure the phone has the latest update. The HTC flashlight is there just like the Original Evo.
I enjoy the phone a whole lot... to me the speaker is fine for most of my needs but I understand it could be better.

I dont think you made a rushed choice. But this goes with everything in technology, once you buy a product, there will be other nicer, better and faster available right after. And if you are like me... once something newer, faster and prettier comes out, my current phone will start to look uglier by the day!  Tongue

one thing I like about android is that once I start getting bored of my device, I will root it and flash a new room giving me a fresh new feel that will hold me off until I am eligible for an upgrade.

Enjoy your EVO 3D until the 4D comes out  wink

Got mine as an insurance replacement for my EVO 3 weeks ago and  I love it. I have not had any issues with it at all.
