All,

I joined this forum just now to find out if it's possible to see the EVO 4G user-interface on an HDTV via the mini HDMI link. I've read that the DROID X has an app called Real HDMI. Is that going to be available on the EVO 4G app market? If so, will improvements be made to the app? The app on the DROID X doesn't work flawlessly. After it connects to an HDTV, the phone will stay on the app screen while the TV turns into the live screen. To see what I mean check out this video:

Real HDMI Android App in Action on the DROID X

Anyways, if this is available for the EVO 4G, this will make this phone even MORE awesome than it is.

yeah, without the phone's screen showing what i'm trying to press this app seems sort of impractical.  there's no way i'd be able to type anything with that.  navigating menus would be difficult too.
I couldn't tell from the video, but does the audio from the phone come out the tv speakers?

The TV is probably not playing the audio via HDMI even though it's possible. Most HD TVs have an external audio system. If a user sets up the audio to output via the TV speakers, then the HDMI cord will route the audio to the TV speakers along with the HD video. In order to reproduce sound on an external audio device (as most entertainment systems are setup), the user would need to route a 3.5 mm audio cord from the phone to their sound system.

I'm very disappointed in this forum as this thread has been viewed almost 1000 times and there still hasn't been any updates on the Evo 4G in regards to "REAL HDMI." In fact, I'm beginning to think that Evo 4G sucks if app developers aren't even trying to catch up with their competitors on such an important feature. If Sprint/HTC is going to advertise HDMI as one of the main features on their main website, why aren't they trying to improve the utility of the feature?

There is an HDMI Development topic at XDAdevelopers to unlock the full capabilities of the Evo's HDMI. They are getting closer to completing it!

I would beg to differ about the HDMI being "such an important feature," seeing as how probably 95% of people never use it and never want to.

+1
With my home theater set up, I hardly see the point. Maybe the 1000 plus views with no response just further proves the point. Viewing the Evo UI over the large display might be cool...about 1x when all the buddies are over. Being in my 40's with a family, the "buddies" dont really hang anymore and there are better things to view via the big screen.
Yeah, sorry, just not an important feature to me at least hence no reply to your thread...

If you two read jj78's post, you wouldn't have posted such ignorant comments. After you read through his link and watch the video in post #11 you will realize these things:

1. 1000s of people care about this topic
2. Entire families can enjoy videos, photos, games, internet, & apps through this capability
3. This is a hot topic for app developers and they're close to releasing a commercial ready app

only 181 post so far on a thread that was started jan 7,2011 i don't see were you got the 1000s of peeps who want this app. and even if it was 1000 peeps that still a very low number  compaired to how many evo's have been sold.  i for one could care less about HDMI. hell if your going to put forth that kind of effort. you may as well work on a DNLA app. now that would be much better than HDMI out. why go wired when you can go wireless.

i'd rather have HDMI as i have 3 tvs in my house with HDMI whereas i only have one DNLA-ready device (PS3) so for me, HDMI is a lot more practical.

I like HDMI. I keep movies in my Evo and when I feel the need to set a movie up away from home it's quick and easy. Also I love the idea of being able to play my app games in a flat screen! I watched the video of the Dev playing AngryBirds and NeedforSpeed on his flat screen. That was pretty cool! And it's pretty neat feature to show off with to your family/friends. Being able to see your Evo on a flat screen is a definite plus.

No no problem. It is as advertised. You Can view your home videos, movies,  You Tube and slide shows through HDMI. The Devs are trying to make it so that HDMI would work to its full potential. You can read up  here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=904186

The Optimus X2 is what you're looking for. It features new technology that can flawlessly mirror the phone's display onto an HD TV. It also boasts 1080p recording and video playback. It will be available via Team Mobile on March 18, 2011.

Unfortunately, Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) will not modify the Evo's HDMI functionality. It seems that the developer on xdadevelopers.com is close to completing the app, but the Evo's hardware is a limiting performance factor. This sort of technology would need to be in mind from inception and throughout the design process. If developers release an app for the Evo with this capability, I'm sure it would bottleneck additional processing.

Optimus X2 has the latest NVIDIA's chipset: Tegra 2. This superchip is what enables the phone to graphically outperform any non-Tegra 2 mobile device out there today. By the summertime, we should see more Tegra 2 mobile devices. However, experts say that Qualcomm or Samsung may come out with something that can rival or beat out Tegra 2 by then.
