I am just curious if anyone likes one or the other better? I have used both and can't really decide.

Shapewritter seems quicker and is avaliable on the marketplace, it seems like everyone on here uses Swype though. Is there something I don't know about Swype?

EDIT: Since Shapewriter is no longer available on the market and with the temporary death/coma of Swype, I've added the Shapewriter apk to this first post. It is the same version as the one found in one of my later posts. - Khassy

I prefer Shapewriter because I hate how you have to do the little loop with Swype to insert a double letter. Shapewriter seems to be a smarter app because it knows that if you swiped from "C" to "O" then to "L" it's more likely that you are saying "cool" than "col". I used Swype for about a day before I found out about Shapewriter and I could not go back to Swype.

I found the Shapewriter beta apk (attached) and have been using it since late yesterday. Honestly, I do prefer it now over Swype. The keys aren't as close together so I make fewer mistakes, if you notice that it input a wrong word after you've already passed it, you can click back on the word and the suggestions for that word will reappear in the suggestion box, the suggestion box runs horizontal across the top of the keyboard, out of the way, as opposed to popping up in the middle of the screen, and it has a built-in smiley button. Smiley And you can make swipe commands, like hitting the SW button then c-u-t will cut text and SW-p-a-s-t-e will paste it. It has built-in languages (not all are active right now, as its in beta state still). And although there's no microphone button on the keyboard, hitting menu will bring one up so you can use voice-to-text.

Overall, it just seems to be working better for me than Swype, which is saying a lot cuz I loved Swype.

I tried every keyboard and the most accurate , fastest for me is ShapeWriter... swype. Slide it.. better keyboard, swiftkey none of these are as good as ShapeWriter, but that is my opinion.. it offers easy correction in that once you check spelling you can click on a word to change it..everyone is different, try them all and see which is most accurate for you...

I just tried ShapeWriter for the first time, and it seems very strict to me. With Swype, I can usually fly around the keyboard extremely quickly and it almost always gets the word right if I was remotely close to hitting the letters, especially on longer words. With ShapeWriter, I feel like I have to take care to hit every letter exactly otherwise it will mess up (and automatically adding double letters makes even more potential options as to what I might have written, so I find that more of an annoyance than benefit). I think I'll stick with Swype.

I second this, every single detail. I kept getting words wayyyy off from what I wanted going at my normal swype speed. I don't wanna slow down Tongue

But that's probably just because I've been with swype for so long that i'm used to it.

Weird. You guys must swipe differently than I do. I'm actually finding it faster, with fewer mistakes, on Shapewriter. Probably cuz you guys have fatter fingers than me. Wink

hmm, trying Shapewriter now for the first time. I feel not doing the double letters just gives more errors. I swiped 'maybe' and 'massive' came up, i swiped 'are' and 'assess' came up, and these are way off just because of the double letters. If swype puts 'ate' instead of 'are' at least the other person can likely understand what you meant!

Also - how do you do a ? and commas quickly with Shapewriter? And add an 's to the end of a word? I like the swype method of doing those, but I do like Shapewriter's suggestions, and the smiley button Smiley
