What is difference between "Navigation" and "Sprint Navigation" apps ?

Newby to the smart phone, and  am still trying to understand this "app" stuff.

The "Navigation" app is a blue arrow, and is the one I use for map and voice navigation.

The "Sprint Navigation" app seems to do the same thing in a much more belabored manner.

Are these both Sprint, or what ?  Why two similar apps ?  Is one supposed to do something that the other doesn't.  I don't get it.

Thanks

The navigation app(with the blue arrow) is from Google.  That is something that Google just recently came out with on version 2.0, and is only on Android phones.  The Sprint Navigation(with the yellow circle and a black road with white lines) is the official Sprint version that comes on basically all of the phones sprint has.  Each has their own pros and cons but I prefer the Google one myself just because of the satellite view and to me is a little quicker.

I like sprint nav, but since the froyo update I now have sprint nav lite...premium is 9.99 a month.  Used to be free with my Simply everything data plan...anyone know what gives with this? I upgraded and hope I will not be charged.

wierd, not sure why sprint would decide to start charging.  Hope thats not a trend the start to follow like the other carriers.  Seems like the one main reason to go with sprint is the value and things like that would ruin it.

Just checked mine.  Since upgrading I just logged in and there was nothing about a fee.  I'm on the everything plan too.

Newby here, so, was worried that I was asking a "too stupid" question.
Thanks for the help.

The sprint nav did not really work out that great.. I own a separate gps nav system but the sprint version fails to reroute if you get off it's path.

I had it set to take me to a mall but I got off the parkway and got on the highway and for the 10 min drive it kept telling me to go the other way.. by that time I just exited out of the program because it got annoying.

I just tried out the google one today but I will test it later on.

I too have a stand alone gps and since getting first the Touch Pro and now the Evo, I haven't used my stand alone since! Well... except for a few weeks ago, when I had some kind of glitch because of another app that would cause my phone to reboot every time I did anything that involved gps in one way or the other.

We went up to Connecticut from Long Island and I had to have some kind of navigation, as I get lost just turning around! lol! So, I busted out my Garmin 2610 and let me tell you, I hated it!! And this after being in love with it when I got it! I found the maps hard to follow. There were times I couldn't figure out exactly which lane to take and where. The Sprint nav was very clear to me. The newer Garmins have maps more like the Sprint nav maps. I've also used the Google nav and really like it as well. I haven't used it as much, as I always forget about it and have a Sprint nav icon on my home screen.

But now that you've reminded me about it, I'm going to put a Google nav icon on my home screen and see if I like that one better.

Kinda ironic we're talking about navigation here...

Before smartphones, I used to have a PDA that could do most things my smartphone does, including navigation.  I require a fairly large screen, I am more suspectible to glare than I used to so some things will not wholly change for me.

I can't use my BB for navigation, even when walking its screen real estate is a joke. With EVO I would imagine I'd be using Google nav more when outside the vehicle.  I have a Garmin Nuvi 775, it tells me my lanes in major areas.

Now that the EVO is 4.3" and so is my Nuvi surprisingly... I could drop the nuvi, the downfall is glare, I have a "hood" (specifically made for the Nuvi) to cut that out, I can't exactly do that with my EVO.

One other thing: while using EVO nav and receiving an incoming call, I would find this actually more annoying because I'd want the GPS to stay on at all times regardless of whether a call is incoming otherwise I wouldn't hear instructions and such.

Ever since my stinking instinct sprint nav has been good with rerouting ( im not good with following directions Smiley )
Google maps is beta and has got me lost a couple times...
Sprint nav is better IMO because it reroutes gives an ETA has turn by turn voice directions and im used to it

When I raise my screen brightness to max on the Evo, I can see it perfectly in direct sunlight with no glare. I agree about the use of the Nav on the Evo when I need to make/receive a call. I use the Evo Nav (usually Google) around town. On long trips, I break out the Garmin.

I haven't had the rerouting issue with Sprint on the Evo. On my Instinct, it would say, you are off track three times and then it wouldn't utter another word until I got myself back on track. Yeah, that was annoying.

NOTE: I combined your posts. Please don't post back-to-back messages, just edit your previous one if you need to. Or if multi-quoting, just hit "quote" on each note successively in the fast reply window and it will insert the quote.

Being able to see it is one thing, its the screen itself the shiny screen will make it incredibly difficult to see as the different reflections change as you drive hence the Garmin with its matte/anti reflection screen Smiley.
