Indeed, last June, while testing the HTC Evo 4G on Sprint's 4G WiMax network, I measured download speeds up to 3.5 mbps. However, during my informal tests of the [T-Mobile] G2 at the local HSPA+ zone, the maximum speed I was able to measure was about 1 mbps. That's fast, but it isn't quite 4G speed. Not like this matters to the average consumer who doesn't really care to look any deeper than the advertising claims nor really care about the speed difference between 3G and 4G when actually using a device. You'd be surprised how many average consumers read and listen to Consumer Reports. A report like that, where they are slower by a wide margin than Sprint will definitely have some impact with people who read it. What I meant is that if nobody had said anything the consumers would have eaten it up that it was "4G" and not really notice a speed difference either way.
