Not to belabor this issue, but not sure how its an app problem.  Been having this problem with Ford Sync on my EVO and wife’s EVO shift.  Get in start up, and boom starts playing music.  We only have the stock music app no other music apps, and of course when we look at the phone its playing from that app.  When I TRY to look at the setting on the app I see no auto start or anything.  I have even tried looking at the setting on sync to see if there is something there but nada!  Anyway, I agree I don't think it’s a bluetooth issue but not sure about the App issue angle..I'm still at a loss!

This is also happening to me, and it's so annoying. I have a Prius, and as soon as the radio goes on and it's on Bluetooth, it starts playing random music, including any ringtones I made from mp3's that are on my phone. I look at it, and see the standard HTC music player is open and the current track is displayed.

I've looking for a setting to shut off "auto turn on," but can't find it anywhere. I got in the car yesterday, turned Pandora on, and the Music player opened and both the player AND Pandora were playing at the same time. I had to shut everything down, turn the radio off and start over, turning Pandora on first. That seemed to stop the Music Player from starting. this is very irritating.

I had this problem and found a solution that works.

Go to Settings -> Wireless and Networks -> Bluetooth Settings

Turn on bluetooth if it's not already on.

Sync should show up in the list of Bluetooth devices. Touch and hold Sync. A menu should show up after a couple of seconds. Choose options from that menu.

In the menu that appears, uncheck Media.

That should fix things for you. I have noticed, however, that this is not a permanent solution. Every couple of months, something will get reset and it will happen to me again, but that's a small issue compared to having music play and draining your battery every time you drive.
