why, when i remove the sd card from my phone, don't i have all the apps when i remount it? Some of the apps i have stored on my sd card completely disappear and i have to redownload them, and some just don't reload to the widget so i manually have to choose to have them show up on my screen again. i have to unmount my sd card often (cuz i have a mac that won't let the evo sync directly), so this is a real pain in the butt.

Edit: I have one of the original htc evos (2010) and i love it...except that, as time has gone by, my photos have been corrupted more and more often. I'll take a photo and it'll show up fine. i'll upload it to facebook and it'll be fine. a day or so later, my phone will randomly decide to tell me it can't save photos to the sd card because of insufficient file permissions, and then the notice that it's mounted read-only pops up. I remove the sd card (a pain in the butt, btw- who decided to mount the sd card INSIDE the phone?! I have a mac, so i can't sync data directly to my computer, which means i have to remove the sd card EVERY TIME), check the files and, sure enough, my jpeg that was fine for days has randomly decided to either be half-gray or half-green, or has become three different-zoom sections of the same photo. I delete the files, remount the card, restart my phone and-voila, the problem is gone...until the next time. At first it was one or two every once in a while, but it's been getting steadily worse since july. last night it was three out of 7, tonight it was four out of twelve. do i have a virus on my phone? is the sd card bad?

*btw- in my case, unmounting and removing almost always happen together. i never unmount the sd card without removing it.

I have combined your two issues since they seem related. BTW, "unmounting" is not the same as "physically removing."

Do you have another gallery of photo app? Maybe that's interfering with your photos, I don't know.

All I know is that this was happening to me with QuickPic app in that whatever album I opened with QP, those files in that album would show corrupted in the stock gallery. all of my photos (in that specifi folder) would be grayed out and about 3 or 4 thumbnails would show the same photo.  The graying out happened only to the thumbnails though. When I opened the photo in the stock app it would still show ok. I got rid of QuickPic.

I've actually concluded that I had a defective SD card. I got sick of it, so I put my original one (the one i replaced because it didn't have enough storage) back in and everything was fine. I went to call the company to see if i could return my busted one, and it turns out they went out of business a few months ago. Found several complaints about their products...so it looks like i'll just have to buy a new one. from someone else, of course.
