(NOTE: If your phone is rooted, make sure you search and read through our Rooting Forum, paying particular attention to the stickied threads, before posting a new thread. If you do not find a resolution to your issue and need to post a new thread, please post about it in the Rooting Forum.)

If you are having a problem with something not working properly, there are a few things you should try before posting a new thread:

  • 1. Reboot your phone by holding down the power button until a menu pops up, then choose Power Off. Once the phone is off, pull the battery for about 30 seconds. Then replace the battery and restart the phone. This tends to clear up a large number of issues.

  • 2. If you are having any sort of connection issues, go to Settings, System Updates, and update both the PRL and Profile.

  • 3. If you are having problems with an app not working correctly, go to Settings, Manage applications. Find the app that you are having problems with and click on it. Then press Clear cache and Clear data. Follow with a reboot as listed in #1 above for best results. If the app is still causing problems, do a search on our forum. If you don't find an answer, try checking the developer's website and/or contacting the developer directly.

  • 4. If none of the above solves your problem, search the forum. If you don't find an answer after searching, post a message and give as much detail about your problem as possible, including whether or not your phone is rooted, how the problem happens (or what you were doing when it happened), what you have done to try and fix the problem, whether or not you are using a task killer, and indicate that you have read the FAQ and done a search. We'll do our best to help you but the more information you can give us, the faster/better we can help.

Q: Help! I posted a message and I can't find it. I don't remember where it is, or it doesn't seem to be where I posted it. Was it deleted?
A: Staff members often move posts if they were placed in the wrong section and there's a more appropriate place for them. If you ever can't remember whether you posted about something or can't remember where it is, click on the Profile button at the top of the page, scroll down to the bottom and click on "Show the last posts of this person." Posts listed there are listed with the most recent posts at the top.  (Speaking personally, whenever I delete a post, I will send the poster a PM about it and explain why it was removed. Not sure if the other staff members do the same. If you have any questions about it, please contact one of us and we'll look into it. - Khassy)

Q: Help! I recorded videos on my Evo but there's no audio when I play them on my computer!
A: Use QuickTime to play them back.

Q: Help! I downloaded the latest update and want to use Swype but can't find it in my apps list. How can I use it?
A: If you have a previous version of Swype installed, uninstall it. Then go to Settings, Language and Keyboards, and Swype should be listed. Make sure the box next to it is checked. Then open a blank text box, such as a new text message, and long-press in the empty box until a menu pops up. Choose Input Method, then Swype, and it should now be enabled. Note that Swype is now a part of the built-in apps and will not show up in your All Apps drawer.

Q: Help! I can't sync my Google Contacts! I keep getting the error message: "Sync is currently experiencing problems. It will be back shortly." What do I do?
A: Go to Settings, Accounts & Sync, and uncheck "Sync contacts." Then go to the People app, press Menu, Export, and export your contacts to the SD card. Once that is done, go to Settings, Manage Applications, All, Contacts Storage, and press Clear Data. Scroll down and do the same for People. That should wipe out all of your contacts on your phone. Then go back into Accounts & Sync and turn the Google contacts sync back on. Your contacts should now sync correctly and, if so, you can delete the export file on your SD card.

Q: Help! A system process called "suspend" keeps running and is draining my battery!
A: This appears to be related to using a toggle widget to turn 4G on and off and is likely an Android 2.2 issue. Instead of using the toggle widget, go to Settings, Wireless & networks to manually turn 4G on and off.  It is also recommended that you reboot your phone after turning 4G off by holding down the power button until a menu pops up, then press Power Off.
