I have tried headsets from Radio Shack, Amazon and Best Buy. What is not working are the button controls that let you answer and end calls, change music volume and move to he next song. The headphones work perfectly. Yesterday I had the Sprint service tech try the Sprint headsets and these did not work either (button controls). They said to wait for the 2.2 update. But I believe I have a faulty jack. I am not ready to swap phones to get this feature to works because I use the phone daily for lots of tasks.

Has anybody else experienced this problem using headsets. When I had my Instinct the headset that came with the phone worked perfectly. I wish HTC and Sprint would have included a headset with this $200 phone.

Go to Settings>Call and make sure TTY mode is not turned off. Doesn't matter which mode you choose, as long as its not off.  Also make sure Hearing aids is off.

Once you do that, when you connect your headset, the icon in the notification bar should look like a handset laying on top of some bricks.

Also note that not all media players will work equally well. I couldn't get forward/back tracks to work in doubleTwist, but they work fine in MixZing.

It would be nice if they put a headset in the box, or at least a set of headphones (like some HTC made phones come with).  But if they added a headset, there would be universal criticism of how crappy the one they added was, and then how much cheaper the phone would be if they did not include it...

Agreed, but everyone has different tastes so yeah, there'd be wailing and gnashing of teeth for having been forced to buy something useless. I hate in-ear buds, that's why I got a Jabra Halo (after I bought a pair of in-ear buds that worked well, but didn't see the Halo until after I'd bought it). We have at least one member who uses hearing aids, so he needs something else (I think I got him hooked on the Halo, too, iirc).

Been thinking about getting one of the bluetooth transmitters that clips onto the visor, but since I make/receive a total of maybe a dozen calls a month at the most, I can't really justify it. *sigh* But I still want one. I love gadgets, I'm a total gadget queen. Grin

Been thinking about getting one of the bluetooth transmitters that clips onto the visor.

That's the one i use.  Wow, the price has come down!  Anyway, I got it 2 years ago with my Instinct, and it works well with the Evo, too.

A few notes if it helps:
When using Nav, it often misses the first couple seconds of instructions.  I'm hopeful that turning tty on will help.  I'll report (edit) back.

In the Los Angeles area, there are so many radio stations that's it's hard to find an empty one to broadcast the FM on that stays clear, but it does sound good.

If I were doing it again, I would get the hardwire version so that I don't have to manually turn it on and off every time (have to hold the button for ~3 seconds).

OK, that sounds like a bad review, but I really do like it.  And the battery does last a long time.

I'm in the middle of no and where, so finding an empty station shouldn't be an issue. I've only used Nav once so far, on the way to a doctor's office down in the next town that I only visit once a year so I didn't get lost. Smiley For me, its just justifying the cost. wink

Regarding the Motorola T505 Bluetooth Portable Car Speaker .

I tried all 3 tty settings, and i still have the same problem: The first couple seconds of an instruction from Nav (or Vlingo) get cut off.  If she's yammering away, nothing is missed: it's only a problem after a silence.  It may be some sort of handshaking problem with half duplex.

And I have noticed that when talking on the phone over bluetooth, the half duplex switcher seems a little too sensitive.  It was great on my instinct, but the other person gets cut off a little too often on my evo. It generally works OK, but sometimes has trouble.  I think in a quiet car it would be fine.

At first i thought it was other things causing it, but i am pretty sure now it is the evo-T505 combo that's the problem.

So maybe it isn't the best one to use with the evo and my goodwill toward it was years of good service on my instinct.  If anyone else has used it with the evo, i'd appreciate your feedback.

I think there's normally a small amount of delay whenever using bluetooth devices. I know when I'm using my bluetooth Jabra Halo, when I use the control to advance to the next song, there's usually a delay of a few seconds before my phone seems to receive the message and advance the track. I haven't used the headset with either nav or Vlingo, so I'm not sure if it would be the same with them.

This is supposedly an OEM HTC headset with make/end call, back and forward track buttons.

The description says it's compatible with HTC HD2 T8585,Hero G3,Google G4 Tattoo, Touch HD T8282,Touch 2 T3333.

Has anyone purchased these headphones?

I purchased this set from Amazon for 10 bucks and all the controls do work. Changing tracks, and Albums/ Artist,(LONG PRESS), pausing music, and answering / ending calls.

The down side is the sound quality is sub par. BTW I am using Power Amp.

OK.  This problem with the headset play/pause/up/down buttons is one of my longstanding EVO problems (though I am not that into music on my phone so it is not the most important functionality to me).  Note: I discovered this problem on a Rooted HTC EVO with lots of apps on it and I was using wired headsets.  Tried old Palm Pre headset and play/pause/up/down buttons did NOT work.  So, I bought HTC OEM headset -- the buttons did not work. Thought there may heve been something wrong with the jack on the phone.  Had headset vendor send me a second HTC one - didn't work.  Tried all settings (TTY etc) - nothing worked. Called HTC and verified that that headset should be compatible (though the person was vague about it).  Called Sprint.  Finally, one Sprint tech -- who is my hero-- physically checked a headset (the same HTC one) with an Evo and confirmed the headset buttons work on FM radio tuner.  Finally went into Sprint store. One bonehead Sprint person said it was not supposed to work with the headset buttons you were supposed to use the screen buttons - WRONG.  Another tech worked with me. I agreed to let him do a hard rest of phone (which I could have done).  Voila.  Headset buttons on all headsets now worked!!  I started reinstalling my programs and buttons still working after most apps added back.  But then I noticed a few months ago that the buttons are not working again.  I assume there is one bad app but don't know what it is.  So, I probably should go through the exercise of trying again, putting 10-20 apps at a time, testing, 10-20 more apps, testing etc until I find the set which causes the problem.  For me, a good way to test buttons is the stock FM tuner, where the up/down button change the station.

Is there a better way -- would freezing apps make them "as though deleted" for this purpose or is there any app that could assist me with re-installing blocks of apps.
