Great tips. I will be making the adjustments to my phone. It is excellent that the tips are accompanied by a explanation on how to make the changes.
Thank you very much to whoever is editing the OP.

one of our mods is doing the updates, 5-6-Ace and I agree... good job! wink

I have removed the list of 20 tips from the original post as I was notified that this was copyright infringement by the owners. I have left the link to their site.

we, Admins, got that message. I don't understand why Jenn K. Lee demanded to take it down and just post the link... well, one reason is to get more traffic in their site (which I may add that has some cool info).

So if I tell someone "Turn off haptic feedback", am I breaking any copyright laws?
Maybe I have to copyright the name Jenn and demand for him/her to change it!  Tongue

Anyway, that was my rant. back to reading info about the EVO

I didn't "demand" it. I just asked if it could be removed. I was saving the C&D letter for later. Wink

I don't mind if the list is paraphrased but to copy-and-paste every single word (not just "turn off haptic feedback" but "Turn off haptic feedback. Once you get the hang of typing on the EVO's on-screen keyboard, you can turn off the haptic feedback that was turned on by default. Go to Settings -> Language & keyboard -> Touch Input -> Text input -> Vibrate when typing. You can disable haptics in other areas of the system by going to Settings -> Sound & display -> Haptic feedback") is indeed copyright infringement, especially when all 20 tips were copied.

I understand it wasn't done with any malice, so no worries.

Now let's get back to the EVO. wink

I just want to clarify so to not create any hard feelings in here. The message I received, indeed, did not "demand" I remove it. It was a friendly request that I edit the post and leave the link. I did so and got a kind reply back thanking me for the prompt action. No biggie. I understand G&E protecting his intelectual property.
It's all good. Hopefully we can all live with that and get along.
Well, hopefully this is the last post about this matter.
Everythings happiness in evoland.

Regards,

Richard

I work 12 hour shifts with no access to a charger. There is also a lot of radio interference which causes the phone to search for signal randomly throughout the night. I have found that by using the task manager app from apollo software has worked great. after my 12 hour shift the battery is still well into the green and I didn't limit my use at all. Previously my pre would be down to 30% battery life after 4 hours unless I used airplane mode A LOT. Also dimming the screen by using the power control widget is a good choice.

Hey guys/gals! This is my first post and wanted to thank everyone for useful tips/tricks about the EVO 4G. It's my first smartphone, and I love it. My wife and I both got this phone Friday so last night I did a battery test to compare our up/awake times.

MY phone has Advanced Task Killer installed while her does not. Before we put our phones down for the night, I turned them off and back on to reset the UP time. I ran ATK on my phone to kill some background apps. On both phones I used the built in manage services to kill any unnecessary things running (i.e. media playback).

Note: I put mine down before she did so my UP is longer.

ME:
Up: 10:02 (hrs)
Awake: 00:28
Ratio: 21.5 - which to me is pretty good. It was idle sleeping for most of the time

Wife:
Up: 8:23
Awake: 00:20
Ratio: 25.2 - Better than mine.

Battery usage:
Me:
Wifi - 34%
Standby - 33%
Idle - 33%

Wife:
Wifi - 32%
Standby - 33%
Idle - 33%
Android 2%

Both of our phones hardly took a dent in battery drain over night (they were not plugged in obviously). I would note that our syncing of different services could be different b/c I don't know how often she has her set up. Mine are set up to be every 4 hrs.  I leave Wifi on per the 20 tips to save battery link by G&E. Tonight I'll do a similar test with Wifi off to see if anything changes. I tried to keep the post short. Looks like I might not bother with ATK as most of the apps it kills, just start themselves again anyways (Amazon mp3!) Wish I could just remove that app completely!

On moderate use, I think I'll be able to get through the day without charging which is fine with me. I'll have a charger in the car and at work just in case. Might buy an extra battery and/or solar charger for times we'll be unplugged for extended periods of time.

I did the 20 tips and my wife's EVO lasted from Friday, when we picked it up to Sunday at around the same time (5 pm).  2 days isn't bad on this phone.  Not great but not bad considering the power of this beast!

So I did another battery usage test last night. Same syncs times for services except this time I had ATK killing tasks every 4 hours. WiFi turned off.

Up: 7:40
Down: 0:28
Ratio: 16.4

Battery Usage:
Cell Standby - 49%
Idle - 49%
Android - 2%

Minimal battery drain but the up/down time ratio fell. Not sure if it's a b/c ATK was turned on to work every 4 hours or Wifi turned off. Guess another test will be done tonight.

Tried the "conditioning" the battery method...interesting results so far. First day of use got about 4 hrs of use with medium use including internet, cameras, GPS,Wifi, etc... . Let the battery drain completely till phone shut down, charged it the whole night (about 6 hours). Did it two days in a row. Today I used the phone intensivly. Lots of web browsing, some camera shots, video playback etc... After 6,5 hours had about 15% remaining. Was pleased with results
