Okay Khassy,
I read...now I have questions:
who is reliable to listen to in this forum?
I put the act sync shortcut, I like it.
I put the mobile widget...love it.
I don't get the power widget...it is huge and as
someone said it doesn't switch the bgds thingy.
also is there a power control widget?  Just a simple button u can place and touch and you get the equivalent of the same screen of what happens when you actually touch your power button For a few seconds?
When it comes to sending...stuff I don't use like stocks and other stock apps...is that good or bad?
After clicking a link on the op...I looked.up NETWORK app and couldn't find it...because I am one of those who relies on 3G, I can't get WiFi or 4G....so my EVO continually wastes energy looking for networks...wastes 19% of my battery.
And...I like and thank whomever for the accounts sync shortcut and the mobile network widget...helped a lot, yet I can use more info...

I can't answer most of that without knowing what you are talking about. You posted that in the how to extend battery life thread, and it doesn't look applicable to the thread so I moved it. But I really have no idea what you are talking about. Could you be a little more specific about each question and state specifically which app/widget you are referring to? It would also help if you maybe numbered your questions and put an extra space between them so they don't all run together.

Khassy…now you are trying my nerves!  Please stop deleting my posts!  I originally placed my post in “how to extend battery life”, because my questions is on the original post in that thread!
Please put my post which I am about to post back there where it belongs!

#1.  Who should a newbie like me rely on for information in here?  That is why I like it when People from Sprint come in here…I know they know what they are talking about!
#2. In the Original Post:
Updated June 19th-2010.
Please read this post first

It has been a couple of weeks since launch and we’ve become familiarized with our phones. The recurring problem of poor battery life quickly took center stage. Luckily, through the efforts and ingenuity of many people, a whole lot of info has come forth on how to solve this issue. I have to admit, I was initially quite disappointed with the 4-5hrs of battery life. Now my phone will last more than 1-2 days, even using apps such as draw, games, calling, texting, music, camera, etc and I could not be more thrilled. I love this device and its capabilities.  And now that there is no battery issue for me, I hands down consider it the best phone out there.
So, if you are considering returning this phone because of battery, take some time to read this post, I have tried to compile some of the most outstanding suggestions in this thread and from other sources.  I think you will also see great results and will become excited about being an EVO owner again.
Thanks Onthehunt for this link.  Look at power mgmt section
http://www.phonedog.com/2010/05/27/sprint-playbook-evo-4g-is-an-awesome-device-but-watch-that-battery/
Please read through these, thanks to goodandevo…
20 tips to improve battery life on the EVO
http://www.goodandevo.net/2010/05/20-tips-to-improve-htc-evo-4g-battery-life.html
By far, the most impact on the battery life will be from turning off background sync and mobile network. You can turn it back on if you need to update mail or go online.
For easy access to these, just add the widgets to one of your 7 front screens. I have a power mgmt screen where the 4g, wifi, background sync, mobile network, GPS, and bluetooth  all are so I can turn them off and on as needed. My default is all off.
Thanks Boo5ted and Bigdaddyinc  who both posted explanatons on how to add power mgmt widgets to the front screen. I will try to summarize:
1-From the screen you: tap +> widget>settings>mobile network. This will add the mobile network widget. Turned off you will still be able to talk and text but not download data
BTW, on the road I use mobile NW and at home I use wifi. I find wi-fi is faster and does’nt drain the battery anywhere near as much.
2-Then add the background sync shortcut. Tap +> add shortcut>settings>accounts and sync.
This will alow you to activate sync if you want to update-mail, facebook or whatever. Use only as needed. Otherwise off. Why does your phone need to be constantly updating s*** while it sits in your pocket?
3-Add power mgmt widget by doing this: Tap +> add widget>power control.
Boo5ted added a screen shot of this, I could not find it. It’s burried somewhere in the forum. Maybe you can find it.
And there it is, everything you need to take control of your destiny.
Another side note that, although not specifically dealing with the power mgmt , it does have an impact on your phones efficiency. It is regarding the advance task killer programs.
I do not have ATK. Android will manage the programs. They're in the background so they can be pulled more efficiently to surface when needed. Hence saving time and energy. They are not active. By default, your most frequently used programs will always be at the "tip of the phones fingers"(so to speak). Much more efficient than having to "boot them up". When it is full, android will just drop unused apps and replace it with relevant apps.
What is using energy is not apps in the background, It is active apps that are CONSTANTLY trying to sync data, they turn themselves back on even if ATK "shuts them off". The only way to solve that is to turn off background data sync. If you add the shortcut to your front screen, it is very easy to update your facebook, mail or whatever else only as needed. Then turn it off. Your phone will go a couple a days with 1 charge.
Think about it this way. Say you have a family game night. You have 12 games but only play 3 of them. You store them all in your basement.
You can save a lot of energy and time if you keep those 3 games on the main level rather than walking up and down stairs to exchange games when you are done with one and going to try another. That is what android does with apps. You are hurting your phone's efficiency by using ATK.
Here’s a tip bout battery reconditioning brought in by Fogbound
“Found this, won't hurt to try...at least the battery conditioning“.
http://forum.androidcentral.com/htc-evo-4g/17191-possible-solution-battery-issue.html
So, there. Don’t return or gripe about your phone until you try these things. Hope this is helpful.

This is needed for my #2 question:
“1-From the screen you: tap +> widget>settings>mobile network. This will add the mobile network widget. Turned off you will still be able to talk and text but not download data”
Thanks for the mobile network widget…works like a Charm!
“2-Then add the background sync shortcut. Tap +> add shortcut>settings>accounts and sync.
This will alow you to activate sync if you want to update-mail, facebook or whatever. Use only as needed. Otherwise off. Why does your phone need to be constantly updating s*** while it sits in your pocket?”
True very true and Thanks for this info!
Now…”3-Add power mgmt widget by doing this: Tap +> add widget>power control.
Boo5ted added a screen shot of this, I could not find it. It’s burried somewhere in the forum. Maybe you can find it.”
What is the purpose of this widget?  I find it too bulky and what is the upside to this?
#3.  Is there an app or a way to make a shortcut on the “home screen” screen that allows you to click it and the “phone options”  page (you get this page when you hit your power button and hold it for a couple of seconds)?  That page offers you to power off, silent mode, vibration mode, airplane mode, and mobile network options…it would be great if you could just tap an app on the home screen screen and have the option to power off!
#4.  The SPRINT HTC EVO comes loaded with apps that I don’t use such as: fring, nascar etc…what happens if I delete them?  I don’t use them and I don’t plan on using them…what will be the ramifications if I delete them…will it hurt my warranty, insurance?
#5  Stay with me: “2-Then add the background sync shortcut. Tap +> add shortcut>settings>accounts and sync.”
Can I delete accounts…like say my stocks or weather accounts?  I don’t use them, I won’t use them…like my 4th questions what happens if I delete them…any ramifications from Sprint?  And how do I delete them?  I can’t get rid of both of those accounts?
#6  on the “home Screen” screen…what makes that screen different from the others…does that screen refresh more than others?
#7  being that I get fair 3G reception and NO 4G NOR WIFI…does that affect my battery…in other words if I have my 4G & WIFI turned off, is my phone wasting any energy in looking for a “network”?  When I am home a lot of the times my EVO is ROAMING…does that hurt my battery…any fixes?
#8  What is the official extended battery life battery that Sprint HTC EVO “endorses” or gives the thumbs up on?  Let’s talk batteries, I would get an extended battery…but is their one that isn’t twice the size?  I don’t want to have to get another bigger case just for a longer battery?
#9  as my 2nd question says…I love the “mobile network widget”…but is there any way since I do rely on email…that I can use the phone, text, and email…well at least receive my emails while disabling my mobile network…or is that just plain impossible?
Any help would be deeply appreciated!
Thanks,
Wayne

Wayne, you will find that most of the people here that take the time to answer a question are usually fairly reliable. I personally don't try and answer unless I'm fairly sure about the solution. The admins and moderators are excellent sources of information as are most of the "regular" posters.

Thanks Pierre!  I do realize most are here to help...but then I see posts where the poster says (well I.e. in the how to extend battery life) some posters say that the tips don't work at all...yet gotta the tips work for me and I thank those with the info they give...yet I see hates in this forum...I can't figure if these hates own an EVO...OR if they are just bored and need to confuse some of us...truth be known, when it comes to this phone I get confused a lot!

You're welcome, Wayne.

As far as I know the only way you can send/receive e-mail without using the mobile network is to have 4G network or wifi.

I don't know about there being too many haters on this board. They usually get weeded out pretty quick by our fine administrative team (suck up for bonus points).

Word of advice, try to keep your questions as clear and concise as you can. You'll tend to get more responses that way. That being said - I myself tend to ramble on. Also, I can understand the confusion that comes from having the EVO at first. Just take it one step at a time and you'll be golden.

Well said Pierre330!  And Wayne, wow. That is almost incomprehensible.  Like Pierre said, try asking your questions seperately, so it will be easier to follow.

Khassy…now you are trying my nerves!  Please stop deleting my posts!  I originally placed my post in “how to extend battery life”, because my questions is on the original post in that thread!
Please put my post which I am about to post back there where it belongs!

We try to keep the forum neat and organized so that people can find the information they need easily.  Khassy is doing her job.   The "trying the nerves" thing works both ways.

#1.  Who should a newbie like me rely on for information in here?  That is why I like it when People from Sprint come in here…I know they know what they are talking about!

That is your first mistake. Wink  Sprint people generally come here to FIND information.

This is needed for my #2 question:
“1-From the screen you: tap +> widget>settings>mobile network. This will add the mobile network widget. Turned off you will still be able to talk and text but not download data”
Thanks for the mobile network widget…works like a Charm!

Wayne

That was the part that made my head hurt.

“1-From the screen you: tap +> widget>settings>mobile network. This will add the mobile network widget. Turned off you will still be able to talk and text but not download data”
Thanks for the mobile network widget…works like a Charm!

Glad that worked for you.

Glad that worked for you too.

The purpose of this widget is to have control of wifi, bluetooth, gps, background sync, and screen brightness at your fingertips.  There are also individual widgets that control these functions.

You just described the function of the power widget, and individual power widgets.  The only thing you can't get is an actual power off widget.  You have to press the power button for that.

#4.  The SPRINT HTC EVO comes loaded with apps that I don’t use such as: fring, nascar etc…what happens if I delete them?  I don’t use them and I don’t plan on using them…what will be the ramifications if I delete them…will it hurt my warranty, insurance?

The only way to remove those apps is by rooting your phone.  Read around in the rooting section to find more information.  And yes, it can void your warranty.

#5  Stay with me:

It's getting really hard to at this point.

You can't delete those accts.  The only thing you can do is set them to not sync.  From your homescreen, press menu>settings>accounts and sync and stop them from syncing.

#6  on the “home Screen” screen…what makes that screen different from the others…does that screen refresh more than others?

It is the "homescreen" because it is the starting point and the place you return to when you push the home key.

Searching for networks does use battery life.  If you do not have good Sprint service at home, search for "airave" on the forum.  There are several topics on it, and it will help with a weak signal and battery life.

#8  What is the official extended battery life battery that Sprint HTC EVO “endorses” or gives the thumbs up on?  Let’s talk batteries, I would get an extended battery…but is their one that isn’t twice the size?  I don’t want to have to get another bigger case just for a longer battery?

There are more than a few topics on extended batteries in the accessories section of the forum.

#9  as my 2nd question says…I love the “mobile network widget”…but is there any way since I do rely on email…that I can use the phone, text, and email…well at least receive my emails while disabling my mobile network…or is that just plain impossible?

You can't receive emails with your mobile network turned off unless you are on wifi.

I think I need a drink.....
