I'm having problems getting the video to play correctly on my Evo.. The video and the audio are ver choppy, and the frames over lap each other. The media player on the Evo and handbrake says the movie is 2 hours and 16 mins long when it's only an hour and 20 mins.

Edit: I went back to the "Title" section and selected the correct time length. Odd.  Converting again to see if this makes a difference.

Edit #2 Still didn't make a difference. Used DVD Decrypter to rip it, and Handbrake to convert...

Sorry about your problem Bass. I couldn't tell you what's wrong because I haven't tried ripping a dvd yet. It's something I am not familiar with yet.

On the other hand, I bought some Doctor Who episodes on iTunes, and also a couple of music videos. The music videos were converted with no hitch, however Format Factory could not convert the Doctor Who episodes. I am not sure if those have a different level of protection or maybe because they are British and may use a different crazy format or something.

Sin,

I've used your detailed instruction steps successfully at least half a dozen times. I can't thank you enough. Soooooo with that said I need to see if I can go to the well once more??

My challenge is that I'm having trouble properly converting a movie that has subtitles.  There's a "subtitle" tab in handbrake next to the video tab you speak of in detail, but you never touched on that setting.  Up to this point I've been able to successfully convert the dvd into an mp4 file on my Evo...it's just the subtitles aren't there like they are on the original dvd.  Any advice??  Undecided

Thanks,

Joe

I used dvdfab to rip several movies, they play on the laptop, the first one I put on the phone I only played for a few minutes but it was fine.  I put several more on the EVO and now they wont play.  I put rockbox on and it wont play them either.  Video frames are frozen for a long time, sometimes the sound works, sometimes it is garbled.  I put some on the wifes EVO also and same thing.  They play fine on the laptop but not at all on the EVO.  DVDfab rips to .mp4 but also creates two other files at the same time, don't remember exactly what they are since I've been deleting them.

Edit: I've now used dvddecrypter and handbrake to succesfully rip a playable dvd for my EVO, extra steps and time, but at least handbrake has a queue.  I'll do the ripping to VIDEO_TS then queue up a batch.

Thanks.

I was directed to this post after posting a question about best settings for video conversion. While it's a fairly informative post, I already know how to convert/rip/decrypt DVDs and files and have been doing so for several years. I still would like more info or opinions on what settings (not what programs) some of you personally use to convert your DVDs for best quality on your Evo. I don't care about "filling the screen" if it means part of the picture is going to be cut off. And I'm not too concerned with converting file to file (like .wmv to .avi for example). Things like frame size (800x480, 480x320, etc.), video codec (MPEG4, H.264, .XVID, etc.), or frame rate (original, 30 fps, 29.97 fps, 24 fps, etc) are more what I would like opinions on. What are your preferred settings for best playback? That may help me, and probably others who are also new to the Evo, to not have to spend hours and hours trying to find the best combination of settings (not that I haven't already  Tongue ). Thank you.

I always like to collect DVDs. But I also like to watch movies on my EVO 3D for its high definition resolution. So I searched the Internet and found one program from Google called Tune4mac which is able to convert DVD to HTC phones. It's really easy to use. And I am satisfied with the results. I also tried other similar programs, but this one works better. So I want to share this stuff with you who also like watch DVD movies on EVO 3D. You may try it first.
