Hi all,

Loving this forum and my one week old HTC EVO 4g. I think it is THE BEST android phone out there.

I got my new phone with the latest hw/sw.

Hw version 004
SW version 3.30.651.3
Android Froyo 2.2

I have searched lots of forums including this one, and I am not getting a clear picture. Is this version rootable.

I want to root this phone, for 3 reasons in this order

- unlock tethering
- remove sprint bloatware
- improve battery life and potential speed up the phone itself

Can Someone please give me a definitive answer if this phone is rootable or not yet?

Thanks

No, you cannot currently root software version 3.30. They are working on it. See our Rooting forum for more information.

Greetings and welcome to the best Evo forum on the planet! We have a lot of information available, so take your time, look around and get your bearings, and make sure you read the following:

If you do not find the answer to your question or issue in the FAQ, please use the search box located at the top of every page first before starting a new thread. If you don't find an answer after searching, post a message and give as much detail about your problem as possible, including whether or not your phone is rooted, how the problem happens (or what you were doing when it happened), what you have done to try and fix the problem, whether or not you are using a task killer, and whether or not you have read the FAQ and done a search. If you are having a problem with an app, please tell us which app it is (whether its a stock app that came with the phone or one you downloaded, and which one it is). We'll do our best to help you but the more information you can give us, the faster/better we can help.

In addition to helping with problems or offering suggestions, we also do a good bit of joking around. Please don't take offense at the teasing we do or if (more like when, actually) a thread gets derailed and hijinks ensue. We just like to have fun and goof around while helping.

So welcome, have fun and happy Evo-ing!

you can absolutly root any evo phone. even that one. you just have to down grade to an older version and then ROOt, but thats a longer process and you cant use unreveoked to do that.
here is a link to help you downgrade.

Thanks for the reply. I will probably wait till unrevoked comes with a newer version. I am little bit afraid of bricking my phone.

if your afraid then you may want to do a search on your local craigslist for someone who has done a .oo4 evo. as thier are lots of experts who do this for a small fee. usually around 25.00 not a bad price to pay to make sure your phone dosen't get bricked.

i am not afraid to root. I just want to make sure the procedure is proven.

I will read through the instructions couple of more time and do more digging to see if i can do it myself.
