Not sure I understand the inquiry, are you referring to mine personally or implication of such in general?

Very few people keep their resolutions.  So, why bother?

I agree with you there, for most it's a passing facade, but for a few it's like when a smoker decides to quit cold turkey and doesn't look back. My original post was light motivation at best, I don't expect it did any good, if you are going to make a change in your life then you have decided on it and don't need any encouragement from me, and if you aren't going to, then nothing I say would matter anyways.

So in short, why bother? Eh... was just a custimary happy new years post Smiley

38 years ago, I quit smoking, cold-turkey.  It had nothing to do with a New Year's resolution.  The problem with resolutions is that everyone makes them, knowing they will break them, hence my question, why bother.  If you want to change your life, just do it. wink

Well something interesting is this website I stumbled on while looking up the calories for various types of sushi. Beyonddiet.com It kind of hits on some of the same stuff as that documentary, Fathead (also highly recommended, it's on netflix). Apparently we weren't taught the truth in public schooling and from other authorities on health and fitness. "You can count calories but calories don't count" is one of the things hit on, it's more about eating the right foods and fats and plenty of it, then your body should burn a lot by itself once you work your metabolism up over a short amount of time.

I'll keep reading on it, there's a program and a one time life time fee but I don't know if I'll sign up, just the free video itself reveals a lot, I figure the rest can be researched for free, but who knows...

Perhaps our resident whistle blower will find this to be of the fraudulent nature? Smiley

If you burn more calories than you take in, you will lose weight.  If someone tells you eating certain foods will increase your metabolism and help you lose weight faster, ask them for verification from an accredited medical institution.

If it doesn't require effort and will power, it probably won't work.  Sites like that thrive because people don't have will power and don't want to exert effort.

38 years ago, I quit smoking, cold turkey.  Last year, I lost 40 lbs.  I didn't rely on some crutch to achieve either.  It is harder to quit smoking because the compounds in tobacco smoke are addictive, and most smokers won't even admit they are addicts.

Never said anything about not working out, I imagine they might be leaving out that consistent exercise is a large part of the success, with a model like that. In the video some woman claims to have lost 55 lbs just off the info in the free video, but if that's true then it's most likely a rarity and the woman most likely was rather obese and had bad eating habits.

It's funny, I lost my bet with my friend the start of this year to get down to 200 from at the time of the bet roughly 235. I lost a big $20, so it's not that bad, and I did lose some weight over the year not really doing anything different just being more active and got down to 225. I'm 6 feet so, while not super tall, I can hide some of my weight in my height. At the start of this year, we made another bet but for $200 instead, for me to be 200 or less at the start of next year. A rather unfair bet, I can shed 25 lbs in a year with little effort, I don't think I will take the money if I beat him, as it was a crummy bet on his end to begin with.

To get lean and fit and down to 185 would have been something worth while, and I may just do it. (takes me back to my glory days of physical fitness, back in the Air Force, was on the fitness team and led a group through PT during the week at Eglin AFB... good times...) I started working out in December at least 3 times a week, and I finally got running shoes, I wanted to save the money and find my white pair that disappeared and remained hidden despite my search efforts, these black ones were $15 at walmart so not a concern.

Just eat less!

For medical reasons, additional exercize was not an option for me, but I still lost 40 lbs., last year.  I accepted the fact that I'd gain a couple of pounds back between Thanksgiving and Christmas (6 lbs), but now, I'm back losing.

Eat what you like, but cut the portions down.  If you want to exercize, by all means, do it.

I've known several people on the Beyond Diet and they all report it as a scam. "You can count calories but calories don't count." That statement alone should tell you something. I would agree that not all calories count the same (i.e., 1 calorie is 1 calorie but 1 calorie of fat counts differently than 1 calorie of protein in a diet). If you have a normal metabolism and want to lose weight, eat fewer calories than your body burns. If you want to eat healthier, eat better types of calories in the right proportions. Diets that cut any one particular component from one's diet aren't healthy (i.e., no carb, no protein, etc. [note: low =/= no). The body requires a certain amount of fat, salt, protein, etc., to function properly, so cutting any one out completely as many diets advocate is inherently unhealthy.

Part of the problem is I typically put more on my plate than I should eat, then not to be wasteful, I eat it all anyways, lol. Lately I've been eating yogurts and subway through out the day in small portions and more often and spread out, along with working out. Also I live down the street from a nice light Japanese cuisine establishment and from 1100-1430 they offer 8 roll sushi of various types for $4, so I sometimes go in there for lunch and get 2 things of sushi and water, sets me back $10-$12 with tip and I think something like 3-400 calories at best. I've lost 2 lbs since 3 or 4 days ago Smiley

With that much sodium intake, have your blood pressure checked.

Try learning to cook your own food.  Then you can control the portions...and save a lot of money.
