I've never owned a printer or fax before, but I bought a U shaped office set to compliment my new place and have a lot more room now for files and such, so I figured I'd get a printer/scanner but I have no clue what is a decent model that works properly but also is less than $100.

Any info is appreciate ^_^

I was looking at one of the Epson Workforce 630 multi.  There's a few in the series that is under $100.

I have a Brother multi from three years ago which cost $129 at the time and the inks are stupidly priced.  The printer was less than a year old and I spent over $80 on inks.

The Epson inks are much lower in price.  The reviews are pretty good so I might get one within the next few weeks.

I've always had good luck with HP printers.  I currently use a photosmart D110a(wireless), which I got for 80 bucks on sale.  If you don't print a ton of stuff, and don't need a fax, they're a pretty good deal.

After my experiences with various brands and types, I would definitely look into whether or not it will print black ink if one of the colors is empty. That's a major pisser-offer for me.

Hp's have separate cartridges for black and color.  That's a definite plus.

Thanks for all the info, I will check out those models and brands and see what my local office depot has. I would like to have my own fax machine and number but that would mean actually having a home phone which I gave up on those like... over 8 years ago. So a fax is not in the cards but a printer is just fine. I'll get to looking those up after I get some sleep, haven't slept in about 1.5 days...

Z, so did the Epsons I've had and the Brother I have now. Doesn't matter. If one of the color cartridges is empty, it won't print a plain black ink page even if its set to grayscale.

So I was at office depot today and came across an HP Officejet Pro 8600 that was on sale by $60 (normally about $200) and picked it up. It does fax, print, scan, copy, photo, etc and used very good ink, although I did forget to ask if it printed if it was low on colors, will find out at some point haha.

What sold me was the roughly 30% off normal price and that I really wanted something of good quality that had all the features I've convinced myself would be beneficial in my endeavors, I'll see how it performs.

Just FYI.

“Pay attention to the expiration dates, though; some cartridges (HP's in particular) will stop working at a set time, no matter how much ink is left.”

Claim it’s because ink can dry out?
