Although not the first time using an evo or Android phone, this is the first time I have owned one. I am extremely satisfied.
pros:
Beautiful large screen
Amazingly snappy, seems faster than any phone I've used including the Iphone 4
Amazing responsive keyboard
Loud speaker with good quality
Capacities buttons are responsive
Android market has much more free games than Apple app store, which I mean it has more full games instead of demos.

Although not many, there are some flaws
I feel the back,up,side ect take up to much room on the keyboard when it could be used to increase key size, but it is a small problem and there are other keyboards out there.

With my otterbox commuter case, the kickstand works, but it is very wobbly. It still works for propping without touching though.

The only real problem is battery. I actuy got about 3 or 4 hours on half a charge and I drained it to 0% then charged it overnight. I was thinking about an extended battery, but it would no longer fit into my case, so I will have to wait for a slim battery that actually adds battery life, because as I'm told, the slim battery actually decrease battery life.

Not sure what you mean by "...the slim battery actually decrease battery life" but there are many extended batteries - up to 2000 mAh - that do not require an extended/replacement door. Search and/or read through the accessories section for more information.

Well I saw some posts about the slim battery 1500 and1800 had lower quality cells and actually lasted longer. Can you confirm that?

The quality has nothing to do with the size or capacity of a battery. It depends on the manufacturer. I personally wouldn't advise anything less than a 2000 mAh but only because the expense of the smaller capacity batteries isn't worth the small boost in battery life you get. The difference in battery life is minimal with 1750 or 1800 batteries.

Buy a good quality battery, not one of the cheapass ones from Ebay. Read the Battery FAQ for more information or, again, do a search and/or read through the accessories section.

Thanks for the advice. I'll be sure to upgrade when possible because in 10 minutes I drop 3-4 percent

Just read the FAQ but I have a question. Like a computer, android has many background tasks loaded stock, and it leaves the processes open for changing and removing. Can you recommend some processes I can remove to improve battery life?

Read the Evo FAQ regarding Android and how it handles processes. We don't recommend removing ANY processes unless they are misbehaving (i.e., an app not shutting down properly). Auto task killers are bad for Android 2.0+ and manually killing them does nothing.

Read the various battery threads regarding battery saving tips. There's a lot you can do to maximize your battery life, but there are also a lot of variables that determine how long you can expect your battery to live between charges.

Ok. Also I read the post about increasing battery life by switching the radio to the correct band and how some evo's are set incorrectly. You said to someonene u needed an app called Network. I have not been able to ring it, do you mean Network Tools?

My 1800mAh battery lasts about 30% longer than my stock battery (which reads as a 1500 in specs, but actually is closer to a 1400 than 1500), so its not totally true what they say.  There are, however, a lot of crappy false claim batteries around the 1700-2000mAh range.  I got my 1800 from amazon from chichitec (also on ebay or from htcexpress.com).  Its the best battery you can buy without going with an oversized based on my research and experience.  I've never killed this battery in one day no matter how much I've used it, including lots of wifi browsing and playing games.  I know a lot of people could with heavy usage continually thru a day, but I am unable to be on my phone nonstop.  On average with light use, I can go up to and over 2 full days, my record being 3 complete days with my phone mostly idle.  I also run a custom rom + kernel.

As far as the keyboard, you can get all kinds of fancy ones or if you just want a nice big traditional keyboard you can get "better keyboard".  Its what I use, and you can get lots of different skins for it.

As far as tasks, I partly disagree.  Some apps do things in the background and don't allow you to close them in their menus.  I kill those tasks.  A lot of programs restart themselves upon being closed, so you don't benefit from killing those.  In general killing tasks doesn't "do nothing"; it always does something whether it closes the app or causes it to restart.  I never kill HTC apps because that just causes problems.  I'm a fan of rooting the Evo and custom roms because it removes bloatware and allows you to strip down your phone to just the apps you need.

I also run no battery saver software.  If you have tons of programs syncing and you have heavy data going going back and forth, it might be worth it, but I've felt less drain without them than with them.  I think they are a bigger source of wives tales than app killers.

I used network to check that it was on cdma auto and it was. I'm still dropping 3-4 percent every 6-10 minutes. I have the brightness below half don't use a talk killer have 4g and WiFi sleeping off no live wallpaper and I just can't get over the battery life any thing I can do to lengthen it until I upgrade my battery.

I mean, if you want to root your phone to put custom software on it, you could try that.  I'm not even really familiar with how the Evo works running stock.

First thing you could try is draining your battery to empty and charging it up once or twice to calibrate it.  I don't remember the battery drain being so bad.

I basically turn everything off that could cause drain.  I turn off wifi, 4g, gps, autosync, haptic feedback.  Theres some really extensive battery guides on the forums here.

Calibrating li-ion batteries is as useless as putting a pair of pants on a pig. Its useless and annoying. Li-ion batteries do not require calibrating and those who insist that it does are clueless about how they work.

Again, read the battery threads. There are more than one, and they all have very helpful information. Start with the stickied threads in the accessories section and go from there. Everything affects your battery, including your signal strength.

You should probably reread the links on these here forums, as I've read them and much more.  Feel free to take a look at the first 10 pages on a google search, its fairly conclusive.

You say you shouldn't, but really you should.  Even battery saver programs offer settings to help you calibrate it on a schedule.  Its not like older batteries where you should do it every charge, but tons of links including the ones that have been on these forums recommend fully discharging and recharging the battery at least once to start and then only occasionally as its bad for li-ion batteries to fully discharge.

What you've heard is that it doesn't increase the capacity, which it doesn't.  It can, however, affect the way it drains.

Quote from: Battery University
Although lithium-ion is memory-free in terms of performance deterioration, batteries with fuel gauges exhibit what engineers refer to as "digital memory". Here is the reason: Short discharges with subsequent recharges do not provide the periodic calibration needed to synchronize the fuel gauge with the battery's state-of-charge. A deliberate full discharge and recharge every 30 charges corrects this problem. Letting the battery run down to the cut-off point in the equipment will do this. If ignored, the fuel gauge will become increasingly less accurate.
