Revolutionary S-OFF & Recovery tool

Revolutionary is a tool to give you S-OFF on your phone and optionally flash a custom recovery image to your Android phone. A custom recovery image allows you to perform advanced tasks on the system partition, such as flashing custom ROMs and taking a full backup of your phone (a “nandroid” backup). We recommend installing the custom recovery image for all users who want rooted phones.

The current version of Revolutionary, 0.4pre3, is a developer preview. We still haven't made it perfectly easy to use for everyone, but we want power users and developers to be able to get started. If you're not a developer, feel free to try it out anyway; but you'll have to be patient with us while we iron out the wrinkles.

You can download Revolutionary from our site, http://revolutionary.io/.

Windows users, please download and install these HTC fastboot drivers.

Revolutionary comes with NO WARRANTY (express or implied), and NO GUARANTEE OF FITNESS for any particular task. Although we have attempted to minimize the risk the best we can, the authors disclaim any chance of damage to your phone. The entire risk of running Revolutionary lies with you, the user.

Supported Devices

Revolutionary currently supports the following Android phones and HBOOT versions:

HTC Desire (bravo) 0.93.0001, 1.02.0001
HTC Desire CDMA (bravoc) 1.06.0000
HTC Wildfire (buzz) 1.01.0001
HTC Aria (liberty) 1.02.0000
HTC Incredible S (vivo) 1.09.0000 and 1.13.0000
HTC Droid Incredible 2 (vivow) 0.97.0000 (Gingerbread only!)
HTC Desire S (saga) 0.98.0000 and 0.98.0002
HTC View (express) 1.09.0000 and 1.13.0000
HTC Flyer (flyer) 1.10.0000, 1.11.0003
HTC Sensation (pyramid) 1.17.0006, .0008, .0011 and .0012, 1.18.0000
HTC Evo 3D (shooter) 1.30.0000 and 1.40.0000
HTC EVO 3D GSM (shooteru) 1.49.0007
HTC Thunderbolt (mecha) 1.04.0000, 1.05.0000
HTC EVO 4G (supersonic) 2.16.0001
HTC myTouch Slide 4G (doubleshot) 1.44.0007
Revolutionary will permanently unlock NAND write protection by default on the following phones:

HTC Sensation (pyramid)
HTC Evo 3D (shooter)
HTC EVO 3D GSM (shooteru)
HTC myTouch Slide 4G

Here I was so excited, this morning when I found this.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1218386   Now, I find I'm a day late and a dollar short. wink

I'm in the process of moving over the next week, so I will have to put my rooting plans on hold, till that's over.

Make sure you keep holding the volume button down until it fully powers up and goes into bootloader. Sounds like you aren't keeping it down long enough.

Turn off fast boot? That might be his hang up

*EDIT*
Just rooted mine with no issues. Works great but the Beta Key is a bit confusing to read copy and paste into notepad for easier reading.

Don't just turn off the phone, do a full battery pull. Should work, that's where i had the problem, as simple and stupid as it sounds.

I had fastboot check and it worked for me.  Just Hold power button down and select Shut off.  Then once its fully off hold the volume up button and power button down at the same time until it boot up.

Wow. I thought that was going to be tougher. First root was successful.
Since pretty much the only thing I wanted was tether I reached me immediate goal and don't need to flash a new ROM.

Another satisfied customer for Rooting.

I searched on google for the answer and found nothing so I'm sure the answer is no.  However I was wondering if an unroot method has been made for this.  I don't want to root and then have something happen to my phone and need to take my phone to Sprint.  My last one the first thing they did was check to see if I had super user then to see if I had s-on or s-off.

Whoohoo!  I just got my Gingerbread Evo rooted. This is my first real root.  I used unrevoked.apk on 2.2 but since that is not available for 2.3 i dove in with revolutionary.  It was not all that difficult if you follow the instructions.  All I really want is wireless tethering so I can use my Thrive tablet on the road.

It seems like no mater how much you read, it is difficult to understand rooting, booting, partitions etc until you do it.  I spent an hour rooting and looking through every option on the bootloader and recovery screens and it makes a lot more sense now.

Looks like an unroot work around has been made.  I will try this all over the weekend after I read up on how to root with Revolutionary and more on the unroot.
