Hi folks,
Not sure where to post this question & since I cannot find an answer here or elsewhere on the web, please allow me to give it a shot.

Have an EVO4G running Android 2.33, build 4.24.651.1.
About two months (give or take) I used the Revolutionary tool/process to root the phone.
Now, I am getting msg's from Sprint telling me that there us an OTA update to what I THINK must be Android 2.4 (I assume--you all probably know the latest OTA better than I). I have to date desclined the option to update. The question is, should I? If I should, Should I attempt to unroot the phone first? If I do that and the OTA works, will I be able to use the same process (or similare) to root the phone pnce again?
Is there even any bennefit to taking their OTA update?

I just have not been able to find these answers--straight forward as they seem to me--elsewhere on this form or any other. I would be VERY greatful to know what my best next move is here. BTW, only reason I need a rooted phone is for wifi tether to my Android tablet, and I suppose the full Titanium backup is nice as well.

Much thanks--answers worth of beers :-)

If you read the stickied threads, you'd find the answers. Never accept an OTA when rooted or you run the real risk of bricking your phone. You will need to find an updated ROM, which you can find by searching some of the most recent replies, as its been discussed repeatedly.

I successfully rooted my phone tonight using Revolutionary.  Smiley

Now I want to remove some of the bloatware that was installed. I did some searching but I was unable to find a clear description of how to do it. I may not have searched the right terms. Can someone point me in the right direction? TIA

Use an app such as Titanium Backup.

hi guys, im a noob to rooting. i never tried on the older ota's because it seemed so complicated but now i tried revolutionary and it was simple. now my question is do i have access to mobile hotspot? i wanna use my laptop on the road.

its says Not subscribed to Hotspot service.

Your acccount does not include Mobile Hotspot service. Please contact Sprint to enroll in a plan for this service.

You can still use the Hotspot app to create a local network.

You cannot use Hotspot without a subscription.

There are alternative methods but not with the Hotspot. And I don't encourage theft of services so I won't instruct you on how to do it but reading through the forum should answer your questions.

thanks for the quick response Smiley

App available in the market so it appears to be condoned by the market makers.  Wireless tether. A lot of roms include the wireless tether 'baked in'.  You probably already have it on your rom. Otherwise look for wireless tether with the yellow signal emblem.

https://market.android.com/details?id=android.tether

Here it is online but easier to search on market on your phone. Have fun!

Oh yea Revolutionary rocks! Had gb and couldnt root. But I found the light. : D

I have been trying to root my HTC EVO 4g for the past few days now, I have tried using my macbook and now Im using a Windows XP computer, Ive watched countless videos on youtube and read several forum guides on how to root. Still unrooted, it seems easy for everyone else.
I am running 2.3.3 and ive used revolutionary and unrevoked..... Downloaded the htc drivers
Put phone into bootloader and phone says s-on
Edit: On the windows computer in the command prompt I get up to the part that says to enter beta key which os from revolutionary's site..... but then it says something something...
So I went back and copied and pasted this time
and now it says "Zerging root..... this might take a minute or so.."

If this doesnt work.... I will update..
Ok, so it was relatively easy on the windows computer....
However, I want to change my sd card, will I have to root all over again?

Im impressed it was easy. With the recent update its a pain.

NEVER do the OTA (over the air) update. If you do you will forever be tied to the Htc site to root your phone.

(on a side note - since they exerting so much control over root process it would seem to void their ability to void your warranty hmmm)

You can change your sd card all you want. But once you do I recommend doing a nand backup before you do and after you do. In other words you will have the backup on both sd cards which is a good idea.

I just had an sd card bite the dust. Cant get anything off it including any backups.

Have fun!

sounds like all you need now is superuser.apk and maybe a recovery.  Although revolutionary should have installed a recovery.
As far as SD cards go, you won't have to root again, but it is a good idea to save everything from SD card to computer and then when you get a new one just copy it over to it.  Why do you need a new SD cared?
As for backups, only will need one.  Right after you root.  It will save to a nandriod folder, or backup folder. That you can move to your computer and leave it there so if your card ever bites the dust you still have it.  I myself have at least ten backups saved to a folder on my PC which are all labeled.  Saves room on my SD card and makes them easy to find for when I need them

I didnt feel like backing up my data so i just put in a different sd card that was formatted. I have superuser and im not sure what recovery your talking about. When I boot into bootloader i have the option to go to recovery, is thats what u mean.
