What rom would you suggest? i have stock rom? since i got phone(june4) i rooted for hotspot...   why would a person need a different one, and do you have a link for me to down load it. and a custom rom would be 2.2? so my unrevoked(1st one) would be no good, so i would have to do unrevoked3?

IGotIt,  There are many roms on the net you can use from Cyanogen, Baked Snack, OMJ, Fresh and the list goes on.  I went with Fresh by Flipz because a friend suggested it to me.

Now the positive side of Fresh is its very stable and fast and it does have 4g which some dont.

...no Fresh is a custom not stock

so i just went with unrevoked, finished my backup, and everything is good to go. however, i dont know if i am missing something or what but i am having a very hard time flashing Cyanogen to my EVO. like i said i did the backup, and the wipes, but i can not find where to get the current Cyanogen version, nor can i download set cpu...actually i cant even get rom manager to work (says something about not being connected to server or something). what have i done? its obviously not bricked....but whats the deal?

Hey Fred follow this link on how to flash cyanogen and let me know if you need help.
In rom manager you need the paid version to load the roms.

Ok i got cha.  At the top where it says flash clockworkMod Recovery, do that first.  Second when you find a rom you want to use (like you have) you add the zip file to the root of your sd card (not in a folder).  Remember leave the file ziped

If you use Rom Manager you skip all that.  Personally i like to do it myself instead of using R.M.

Ok before you start the process theres a few things you need to know
1. Titanium backup-download and do a titanium backup to restore after you flash
2. Backup your contacts to your sd card. People, menu, import/export.
3. Move the Fresh zip folder to the root of your sd card (not in a folder) but leave the zip folder ziped.
4. Once you flash you will be on a basic ui screen and you will have to restore all your apps and contacts.  That is the reason for step's 1-3

When on the boot recovery screen use volume to toggle and power to select.

Ok now you are ready to flash
1. Turn your power off.  When off boot your phone into recovery by holding volume and power until your phone boots.  Select recovery
1.1 Do a nand backup at this point
2. Select wipe/factory reset.  Then go to advanced settings and do a Dalvik cache wipe
3. Next install a zip from the sd card.
4. Choose zip from sd card. and toggle to the Fresh zip folder you put on the root and select

The zip file's should be near the bottom of that list.  In the future when you flash kernels and theme's with a rom they should all be in the same location

5. Reboot system

Thats it you now have a custom rom.  Now is where you need to use Titanium backup to restore apps.  Also import your contacts from sd card like you exported earlier.

SUPER EASY! Backup, Flash and Restore a Custom ROM (Android)

Look up this SUPER EASY.....on youtube and watch the 14 min video for a reference
