Now you can use Rom Manager to do all the processes in the previous post but i suggest for your first time you do it the long way just incase you get stuck in a boot loop.  This way you will know the process and have a good understanding of what is being done.  JMO

quick question...yes i know i already did my root, backup, etc. however i just did a factory reset (i dont mind if i lose everything) will that also cause me to lose super user status and everything else? Will my phone need to be re-rooted? i ask because i want to basically root my phone as if it came out of the box brand new from sprint. This way i can really learn how the rom's and kernals function.

thanks for all the help, you guys are killer.

lets keep going , it saids i do not have a root rom? i have a stock rom 2.1 so could that be the problem and when i do this fresh rom then i should be ok?  and in my super user list i delete titanuim thinking when i reinstalled it would pop back in there. so what you say? lets go for it

Once you are rooted its forever unless you go threw the unrooting process.  So you can reset, restore that dont matter....and your welcome
