IGOTIT, why not go back to this thread?
http://www.evo4gforum.net/htc-evo-4g-rooting/rom-discussions/
Jak89 went thru the whole rooting process and flashing roms step by step with you specifically.
One of the most informative threads here.
As for the 4g problem, have you tried reflashing the rom? If you still have your keys, if must be user error. I never had issues using Elite roms 4g. How do you know you still have your keys?
Are all your radios properly updated for the roms you are using?

Hey the rooting part i got, it just that i have not had 4g since i rooted only on orginal rom when i do a back up,  and i have ask that question in a few forums just got no answer. So thought it was something i did in the rooting process or after i rooted and did a back up, Also i got the wimmax key checker and it said i have my keys.. (4g works with the orginal rom that came with phone) that was the only reason i was asking about the rooting process, just want to make sure i have 4g this time around....

edit  root complete and all work, dunno about 4g, dont have it in lutz fl, have it in tampa where i work at... give a update when i find out

To all,
If applying the update automatically unroots the phone, is there any purpose of un-rooting before the update?

Thanks,

I would.  It could possibly screw something up.

Yes, there is a reason why we, and everyone else in the rooting community, say to never accept an OTA unless you unroot.

There is a rooted version of the Gingerbred update available.   No real need for you to unroot since this is available and it's there if you really want that update.

Thanks JT,
What is the SD folder called when plugged into the PC.  I have Android, dcim, .easc etc.  The video says to drop it into the SD card of the phone.

I'm running Windows 7 so when I plug in my EVO, the folder just pops up.  It's called "Removable disk E:"  Don't know what you are using but that is what mine says.

Thanks JT,

I think as long as it's in the root directory of the phone's drive, i'm okay.  However after flashing the second file PC36IMG, it gives me an error "older version".

Does anyone know if there is a new version of the PC36IMG?

Thanks

z,
Thank you, we appreciate your knowledge that you share with us newbies.

I just want to be clear; I already flashed the unrevokedforeverson file in the first post of this forum.  I'm in a s-on status.  I downloaded the pc36img from your response.  Do I need to rename the file by removing the first set of numbers and leaving the pc36image.zip?  Then i'm ready to copy over to the phone and process as in the first post?

Thanks again,
o2

Correct. Rename the image and follow the directions as before and you should be good to go.

*the op has been modified to include the new file.

So, I'm trying to unroot my phone to get this new update that came out and I successfully did all the unrevoked forever son stuff but keep getting the same error with the PC36IMG and I have no clue why! I have read all 7 pages of this thread and have seen the solution to just get the updated one posted by "-Z-" which I did with no change. and I'm still getting the "main version is older" error and so if anyone has any solution it'd be greatly appreciated!

Did you remove the old PC36IMG from your sd card?

Remove everything involved from your sd card and try again, making sure that you renamed the 3.70 one to just PC36IMG.  It should work.
