I get this question a lot so here is the info http://bit.ly/9PfGZw.

(edited topic for clarification and stickification - Khassy)

Found this over at XDA forums figured I would add it.

With kernels, what is BFS and CFS? Which would work better for my phone?

Answer: CFS stands for Completely Fair Scheduler. BFS stands for Brain f**k Scheduler (sounds fun, right?). These are two different ways that the phone's CPU uses to schedule events. Without getting into the technicalities, here is what I have found for my Evo. Your mileage may vary and again, you have to experiment to find which works better for your particular phone.

CFS: Generally more consistent, use when you want consistent performance and/or if BFS kernels do not work well with your phone. Sometimes will appear to be smoother than a BFS kernel in overall use. The stock HTC kernel uses CFS and it is more standard than BFS.

BFS: Generally a bit faster but a bit more inconsistent (might appear to slow down more and such). Usually faster overall performance but will not look as smooth as a CFS kernel (in general).

Another way to put it, CFS is closer to a flat line, if you drew a performance map it would have less peaks and more consistency. With BFS, there would be more peaks and higher peaks with the faster readings and lower peaks with the slower.

You will find that one or the other may work better for you, or fit your needs better. It is a good idea to try both and see your results. My phone seems to heavily favor CFS kernels and I like the overall smoothness and consistency better. To me, BFS often appears to be more laggy than a CFS kernel. Again, each phone is different though and my results may not match yours.

Try them both and whichever performs best use it.What I do is flash one run a few quad scores,Linpack scores and fps2d scores whatever performs best on my phone I use.To me I don't care about CFS or BFS there really isn't much difference just what works best.

Shift, give it a whirl at 1190 mhz and adjust slightly for there, but that should be about where you want it. Remember underclock can make unstable too. Set around 245. Someplace I have a bookmark of Setcpu settings. I will see what I can find and try and paste it.

Thanks, yea Ive experience unstable underclocking before lol, so I already have the min set to 245. Thanks for the response, and plz do post up the settings if r able to find them

EDIT: so 1190 was too high lol. 1113 seems to be ok. Im gonna leave it there for a while and inch it up over time so I can find the cut off point. But if u find the settings plz still post it up lol

Yeah, havs and profiles don't get along. You can read a bit more on the second page of that link towards the bottom. Personally, I've not been a big fan of setcpu. I think if ur not careful, it can do more harm than good.

I don't think most users have the knowledge to really use it properly for one. I think some hear about all the great battery life they can obtain, but never really learn how to use it. in turn they run the risk of damage to the phone. Some of the overclocking benefits like fps are negligable and undetectable by the human eye or brain as well. I think it all sounds cool to Overclock or Underclock. You can OC or UC to the point of really damaging or shortening the life of your cpu, but like I said, most users don't take the time to read and really learn about what they are doing. It can be a great tool, but unfortunately, most don't use it properly. You can read issue after issue about it.
Not saying you are one of these people lol. Some like Roblin, can probably give you lots of great advice on how to use it better than I.
