Personally, I've never rooted a phone, until coming across this guide. After reading so much about
what can be gained from rooting, it's barely questionable whether or not I'd want to do it.
I felt this guide could help some other people on the same level as myself to rooting their Evo,
it's completely step-by-step, & pretty much impossible to screw up if you follow the instructions.

Worth checking out if anything.  Wink

I feel like I'll probably be doing this soon enough. Pretty much if its not really "suppose" to be done and Ill be getting something for more or less nothing then Im there. But as the sn says, Im still trying to figure out all the benefits and downfalls of rooting your phone. More or less Im just concerned with what I Wont be able to do afterward.

I'm with you there. The only reason I'm for it, is the free WiFi that I don't want to pay 30$ for. And getting rid of the obnoxious stock apps, like Sprint Nascar, etc.

As far as downfalls are concerned.. only downfall I can see is bricking your phone. Which
you have to decide is it worth the benefits? I haven't really read about anyone screwing up
a root, & bricking an Evo yet though. As long as you can follow simple instructions, I don't
see it happening anytime soon.

I'm confused...what WiFi do you have to pay for? Are you talking about the 3G/4G service? Or WiFi that you connect to a wireless router???

Using your phone as a "router" to transmit wi-fi to other devices is what you have to pay for.

^ Yep.

So anyone that knows anything about this, would this be fine if I just wanted to root
to get the WiFi & ditch the stock apps?

Custom ROM's and anything further than that, is still way above my head. Sooo.. whaddya think?

I was completely happy with my phone and had no intent to root it, till the last 30 minutes. Add me to the list of most likely to root for that free wifi.

Not paying the same amount of money to connect one device as someone else who connects 8!
