I am on the pre-order list @ local Best Buy.  However I stopped by a privately franchised Sprint store (not a corporate one).  The girl there told me that the hot spot service will be mandatory - but the 4g $10.00 service will only be charged if you are in a 4g service area.  Has anbody else heard that the hotspot service will be mandatory?   I don't think that's fair - as I for one have no intention of using the phone as a hotspot.

The hotspot service is optional, the $10 fee is mandatory(regardless of whether you're in a 4g area or not).

Tell her to put down the pipe...crack kills.

The $10 is mandatory, no matter where you live.  The hot spot is optional, and will be free for the first month if you are in a 4G area.

I thought she was full of **** , unless it's a well kept secret that Sprint is gonna spring on e1 at the last minute.  Are there any Sprint employees reading this that can say whether it is manadory?   Everything I've read so on internet says "optional".

Not sure where you are getting your info but it's been established that the $10 fee is a mandatory data/4g fee and the hot spot fee is entirely optional. Here some resources:

Plus talk to a sprint rep with live chat or something, you will discover that the $10 fee is mandatory, unfortunately, and that the hot spot is optional.
