so i went in thinking that the phone was $299 before rebate, and since i passed the 2 year eligibilty to upgrade my existing phone... i was expecting $300 - 150 = $150 before activation and policy fees and all that.

then sprint told me that i have to pay $450 upfront for the EVO....then the $150 upgrade discount would bring the cost down to $300 plus $37 activation fee and $10 protection plan.

how come its 450 and not 299? i thought 450 was for people who wished to buy it without contract. this is confusing. could someone look at their receipt and give me a breakdown and total cost for the phone altogether. that $199 is so misleading....

EDIT:

my bad, i think the protection plan was still 7 bucks like i'm paying for it now.

450 dls is the price of your phone with out a contract minos 150 dls for upgrading 300 minos 100 rebate =200 dls

Here is the breakdown...

$449 for the phone - $150 for the upgrade credit - $100 rebate = $199

okay so if i wasn't a Sprint customer and were to buy an EVO right now at Best Buy instead of Sprint. it would still be:

$449 for the phone with a 2 year contract - the instant $100 rebate = $349 ?

Best Buy = $349
Sprint = $449 (without upgrade credit and rebate since most customers will hardly ever get one back anyway)

what you are saying is that $199 is only true for Sprint customers who upgrade and not for any other ordinary joe who wants an EVO? so actually... everyone who wants to own one, Sprint plan or not will have to pay $150 more than it is advertised?

don't get me wrong i'm looking to get one eventually, wished they would be more upfront about the price.

If you walk into a Best Buy right now and sign up for a new contract, the phone itself will cost you $199.  Plus whatever taxes and activation they charge you.

so i buy a EVO w/ 2 year contract at Sprint Store it is $449

this doesn't make any sense.

because i have upgrade discount...sprint has to charge me $449 for the phone. is that what it is?

 if i don't have the upgrade discount, is it still $449 or...is it $299(without rebate)

man, this is so confusing.....

so if i'm a current sprint customer and buy the phone at best buy the total cost will be just under $300 including all fees/taxes?

I got mine from Sprint. It was $299 + tax and I will get the $100 rebate for a total of $199. There is also the $10 Eco fee & an $18 upgrade fee that both went on my bill. I think you are confused & need to talk to someone @ sprint. The only difference between bbbest buy & Sprint is the rebate which they give you automatically at best buy.

talked to a representative yesterday...they said its 449 for the phone w/contract and minus the 150 credit its 299 and $100 rebate for $199 just like Stringbean said, but what if you didn't upgrade/or if you're a new Sprint customer...wouldn't you have to pay 449 for the phone?

all this time i was led to believe its 299 upfront not 449...and if i traded my phone in i would get 150 off...so in the end i was expecting or hoping rather to pay $150 for the EVO...and with the 100 rebate just $50 for EVO..but i guess it doesn't work that way lol Smiley

so its probably better to go to Best Buy then..b/c it'll cost me just under or little over $300 for everything and at Sprintstore probably almost $400

7 - protection plan
27 - tax
370 - total

Activation and the protection plan go on your bill you don't pay those up front. You're better off going to Best Buy or Radio Shack just to not have to deal with the mail in rebate, they give you instant rebates.   Out the door at either of those places should be around $220 for the phone.

 New sprint customers also get a $150 discount on the phone just like eligible upgrading customers, the $449 price is for those that aren't eligible for an upgrade i.e. those that got new phones within the last year.

New customers and upgrading customers pay the same anount of money for the phone. The only difference about buying the phone at the Sprint store and best buy is this: Sprint store u pay 299.99 + tax and you have to send some paper that they will give you to get 100.00 back (that takes like 1-3 months not sure tho) Best Buy you pay 199.99 + tax and you dont have to send any papers nor wait for the 100.00 to get back to you.

I got my EVO 4 days ago, 5 months after getting my Hero............... I couldn't resist!!
You have to understand that I was very excited about the Nexus One at the beginning of the year but didn't want to go to Tmobile so the hero from sprint was my only option.
A little after getting my Hero I hear about the EVO coming to Sprint!!!! so, yes I GOT IT W/O THE DISCOUNT  Cheesy.

Then today I got my e-bill and noticed the $18 upgrade fee so I say WTF!!!!! So I called Sprint and told them about my hero activation fee plus other tow phones I brought from verizon plus the full retail price for the EVO, so the guy was nice enough to wave the fee. Tongue Tongue Tongue

I'm still not happy for paying the full price but the EVO is really worth it!!!
BTW with 3 lines, all of them smartphones my plan of 1500 min. is $129 for the primary line + $10 for the EVO and the second line is "free" + $20 for the third line +++.
That's a lot of info (or maybe not) but then you guys could get an idea of how much you'll be paying for your phone.

If you buy it from Sprint, you should have bought it online (chat) or by phone.  They don't charge an acitivation fee or upgrade fee.


I was billed $299 plus tax for my phone
Billed for  the $10 "premium service" fee

whether you upgrade your phone or not, Sprint charges the EVO for 449.99

449.99 - 150(2yr. upgrade) = 299.99 - 100 rebate = 199.99
449.99 - 75(1 yr. upgrade) = 374.99 - 100 rebate = 274.99
449.99 - no upgrade = 449.99 - 100 rebate = 349.99

the way i see it, 199.99 seems like false advertising to me unless the 449.99 doesn't apply to upgrading Sprint customers where instead they charge the phone for 299.99 and the 100 mail in rebate therefore making it 199.99

like i said in the beginning i initially went in thinking i could buy the phone for 299.99, use my two year upgrade for 150 and buy the phone for 149.99 then send in the rebate and the total will end up being 49.99

i guess there's no advantage being a loyal sprint customer lol. thats ok tho' that would be pretty awesome i guess

If you take the time to read, the pricing is pretty clear if not eligible for an upgrade you pay the full price, if new or eligible for full upgrade you pay 199
