An OTA update is currently being rolled out for all versions of the Evo (4G, 3D, View, etc.) to correct a security flaw.

As usual, it is highly recommended that you NOT accept an OTA if your device is rooted, as it may (and probably will) mess up your superuser access and cause problems. It is recommended that you wait for an updated ROM instead.

Is the update only to correct the security issue or are there other updates as well? And thanks for the heads up!

From Android Police:

Quote
So far, we've confirmed that the EVO 3D, EVO 4G, EVO View 4G, and EVO Design 4G on Sprint are all receiving an OTA update. While the EVO line is only receiving a small OTA that fixes the issue (and in some cases, a few other bugs), the fix for the Thunderbolt is bundled in the newest Gingerbread update, which should begin rolling out any time now. Of course, if you don't want to wait for that to happen, you can always flash the RUU.

HTC devices, including HTC EVO™ 4G, HTC EVO™ 3D, HTC EVO Shift™ 4G, HTC EVO Design 4G™, HTC EVO View 4G™ and HTC Wildfire S™, will receive over-the-air updates starting today. Customers can download the update manually right away by following the instructions below.

Sprint worked closely with HTC after reports emerged of a potential issue that could allow malicious third-party apps to compromise data on Android™ devices made by HTC.

Protecting customer privacy is a top priority at Sprint. Beginning today, HTC EVO™ 4G, HTC EVO™ 3D, HTC EVO Shift™ 4G, HTC EVO Design 4G™, HTC EVO View 4G™ and HTC Wildfire S™ customers will receive the over-the-air software update to address this situation. We urge all users to install the update promptly.

Update notifications will be sent to users in waves. The notification will let users know the update is available and provide the easy, over-the-air download instructions:

Users will receive a notification the software update is available for download.
Once users have downloaded the update, they will be prompted to install the update. Users will be notified that their devices will be disabled during the installation process. The phones will be ready to use once the process is complete.

Beginning today, customers can manually download the update by going to Settings >System updates > HTC software update > Check Now.

Has anybody actually done the new OTA security update on their phone? For some reason I haven't seen much traffic about it on here. Anyone having undesirable issues with the update?

I just did the security update. It takes less than 5 min. If after the phone turns itself back on the screen will not appear normal as the apps will be missing at first, be patient, it finally gets back to normal. No problems seen.

I have not done this update because I want to stay rooted. But I'm afraid of the security issue. I just got a notification that said i have "won a free mac" with a symbol of a redish star so im worried about someone getting my personal info. If I unroot, then update, will I not be able to root again?

We do not recommend that method. It shouldn't take long at all for an updated ROM to be released, and the security hole has been there for awhile now so a couple of days more of waiting shouldn't hurt.

I'd recommend taking it into Sprint and having them do it.
