OK, I've searched the forum and found one other guy who was having this problem, but no one was able to help him so I'm hoping this thread might generate some more help.

I'm currently running  2.1-update 1 build 1.47.651.1 and I have Unrevoked 3 installed as well as the Unrevoked Forever patch.

I've been holding out on updating to 2.2 but I'm finally compelled to give it a try for some added functionality I need at work.

Anywho, I made a nandroid backup of my 2.1 install and download the 3.26.651.6 2.2 update.  After the download, I ran the installer and the phone rebooted.  At first I saw a black screen with an open box with an orage arrow on the screen and the green android guy.  There's a status bar at the bottom that goes to about 20 percent,  Then the box went away and was replaced with an Exclamation Point in a Triangle along with the green android guy.  None of the buttons are responsive at this point and my only option is to pull the battery.

I went into my custom recovery and did a wipe of the software and booted up with default factory settings and tried the download again, but got the same result.

So, anyone have any advice at this point?

I went straight from 1.47 with Unrevoked3 to the .3 leak to the .3 to .6 update without issues. My best guess is that running Unrevoked Forever may have something to do with your issue. Do they have any instructions for how to unroot after running it?

I had a similar problem (I was rooted with Unrevoked3 and was not able to update to the 2.2 OTA because of the exclamation point-android screen). If I understand correctly, you tried to use the update that came straight to your phone from Sprint, correct? What I found to work was download an RUU of the .6 OTA update and just install it that way (in the process wiping my data, which I had backed up).

Thanks for the reply guys.  I first tried to update with only  Unrevoked 3 installed, then I tried Unrevoked forever, and I got the same result.

However, I was able to download the 2.2 update from this thread on XDA and apply it using my custom recovery.

Seems to work OK and all of my apps and settings were retained.  The only thing I've noticed right now is that I am no longer prompted to enter my 4 digit password that's enforced by my Exchange server settings.  Not exactly sad to see that go away, but that's the only weirdness I've found so far.

Oh, plus I can't seem to download Flash 10.1 from the Market for some reason.  Haven't figured that one out yet.  Searching for it produces no results and going to the adobe labs page which has the redirect to the Market produces an empty page.

I could be wrong, but my understanding is you shouldn't need to install it unless you're having problems. 2.2 should already have Flash 10.1 embedded in it. It's been gone from the market for quite a while now.

Nope- You're completely right.  Flash 10.1 appears to be preinstalled in the update.  Flash sites appear to work.  However, the implementation in Dolphin HD is loads better than how it works in the default browser.

Anyways, not sure why I had that original problem, but if anyone else has this issue, then this upgrade path seemed to work for me.

Make sure you do a nandroid backup of your 2.1 install before you attempt to install this update.

OMG Everyone is always saying dont install the OTA!! You will lose root. I cant lose root to save my life!! S is on now but all my root privileges are intact. Im downloading the pc36img 3.70.651.1 to flash it. I downloaded a different pc36img though the writer said it was a stock evo.

I just want to go stock evo so I can take phone in to sprint. Its possessed. Apps open on their own as if someone is pushing the screen. Photos scroll on their own and photos are selected and once was almost uploaded to fb. wth! But I cant take it in unless I have a simple stock rom etc. I used to be so concerned about losing root. I cant shake it.

Tried ota update several times and it leaves me with yellow triangle, white exclamation and smug android character grinning knowingly.

So here goes flashing this pc36img (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=884060)  in my 12th hour of working on this. Maybe I will lose root and get back to stock. My home net connection is so slow Im downloading it using phone ironically.

Or should I install gingerbread??
