Edit: Got this update.  Android Version is now 2.3.5.    Software version 4.67.651.3 And it updates Gmail to 2.3.5.2 which is the version that stopped 3rd party apps from reading email or reporting  counts.  Will update if I find anything else.

I have not allowed the OTA update because i am rooted and from what i recall i was always told not to accept ota's when rooted. Is there an exception to this update or will someone be posting a flashable version, OR should this update just be ignored alltogether for now?Huh?

There are no exceptions. Keep an eye on XDA for an updated version.

Khassy,
is this update something that is a concern or something that we must do that you are aware of. I personally haven't been having any problems and i tend to follow the "if it's not broke, don't fix it" moto...thinking of ignoring it all together until something forces me to get the update

It gets rid of Carrier IQ. I have no idea whether your rooted version contains it or not. Whether that's something you are concerned about is up to you. Google it for more information if you don't know what it is.

I am aware of the carrier IQ fiasco and am not concerned with it. I'll wait it out and see what other things change. i am nearing the end of my contract at this point and may be switching devices anyhow...the evo just seems to be outdated as far as speed and more than anything the internal storage. I am always getting the low on storage notification and have to remove things that i can not put onto the sd card even with all of the bloatware removed.

I am downloading the update right now. I will report later on how the phone is working. I do want to get rid of Carrier IQ so I want this.

By the way, Lookout has an app to check if you have carrier IQ. I downloaded it and it told me I have it. I will check again after the update and report.

EDIT:  Update done!

The first change I noticed was that I got the new Market, the one with Apps, books, movies, and music. I never got that one before so now it came with the update. GMail also automatically grabbed my second account (now it notifies me about both). I had never signed up to GMail with my second account, but I did sign up to YouTube with that one. I guess since Google changing it's privacy policy if you sign in to one, you sign in to all.

Apps. It also updated about 25 apps. Almost immediately after I opened the Market, I got notified abut about app updates and wow! It said 25! I have never updated that many ups in one fell swoop. I suppose those are the good developers who keep up with the software updates right away. I like those guys! Smiley

About Carrier IQ. I don't have it anymore!!! Whooooo!  I downloaded the Carrier IQ detector (in the market) from lookout. I ran it and it said that my devices "DOES NOT have carrier IQ"  I'm happy about that. Less crap to crowd the internal storage.

The phone seems to be running faster as much of the updates were lighting fast, even the manual ones. No noticeable change in battery consumption. No lag.

Everything good so far. If anything changes later I'll post again.

Cheers.

It did not repair the Sense restart issue.  I am still having that problem.  Phone seems to be faster and battery lasting much longer.

BarbarianRaider, i am assuming you are not rooted or did you unroot to update?? I hate the unroot process as everytime i've done it, it wipes out everything on the device unlike rooting that doesn't. I'm lazy and hate restoring everything and losing the data in apps

I have never rooted.

I thought this has been explained here many times. Do not do an update if you are rooted.
