The smartphone market is full of Android handsets, and we know Google always keeps its devices up-to-date. It’s a hard work to track how many smartphones run the latest versions of the Android platform. But at least we can say that the HTC Evo 4G is going to get Gingerbread in June.
This information was confirmed by an HTC customer service rep who wrote an e-mail to a TalkAndroid reader. According to this email, the HTC Evo 4G and the HTC Thunderbolt will get Android 2.3 upgrade by the end of Q2. So HTC decided to bring the update for its high-end smartphones first. The HTC Evo 4G is really a great handset with awesome features, and Gingerbread will be a good addition to them.
The Evo 4G has a 4.3-inch touchscreen, a 1GHz Snapdragon processor, an 8MP camera, 4G WiMAX connectivity and many other features. When the phone was launched a year ago, it ran on Android 2.1 Éclair. Then the device was updated to Froyo, and now the company will update it once again and make it even more charming.
Below is the above mentioned e-mail:
Good question, Derek! We understand how important it is to have the
latest updates for your device.
I’m happy to inform you that both the Evo and the Thunderbolt are
definitely on our list to receive the 2.3 Android OS update.
At this time, we don’t have an exact launch date, nor are we .
However, we estimate that it will be available in the second quarter
of 2011 (anywhere from the beginning of April, to the end of June),
assuming that there are no major setbacks. Once we have a better idea
of when this update will be available for your phone, we’ll be sure to
announce it through Facebook (
http://www.facebook.com/htc) and Twitter
(
http://www.twitter.com/htc), and of course, HTC.com.
We’re not aware of any immediate plans for a tablet for the Verizon
network. However, The Evo View will also have a wi-fi only version
that you will be able to purchase through Best Buy.
Thank you for taking the time to contact us, Derek.
