Everyone, I rooted my Evo 4g about 8 months ago and it was not easy. I think I'd rather shave my head with a cheese grader than to have to root like that again. Took like 2 hours and I had help from an expert. That beeing said I wonder what I'm missing with the Sprint's Updates since the as I'm sure it will kill the root access. Also I just checked my phone for available updates and it lists sys upgrade 3.29.651.5 at 22.92 mb -FOTA update. I assume I will have to do that update before I see the 3.70.651.1.  So back to my question, are these updates worth it, when I saw the list of added features in the 3.70.651.1 I did not care much for some new trial game, scanner and the others and my nav did update to the latest telenav via regural apps update. Phone works perfect, and basicaly I love the free wi-fi app.
However if any of these updates include some major bug fixes or speed improvements or a reall cool Sprint only app I would like to jam that patch on but for sure will lose my root and no way I'm going through that rooting process I did half a year ago. So anyone know an easy way to root the phone after the latest Sprint Official Update yet? Something like rooting Droid X..for F's sake I cant believe how quick and easy that was when I did it for my friend yesterday.
Driver, cord, windows app, click root my x2..done But I think Motorola is gay just as the doushe IPhone. I just may wait for the evo 3D, I'm sure it will be real easy to get one of those  :Smiley lol Any coment would be appreciated. Thanks all
Julian

I don't know why you had such a hard time rooting before but yes, you can easily root after applying the latest update using Unrevoked methods.  Or, since you're already rooted you could install a new ROM that has the updates applied (and the Sprint bloatware removed if you wish.)  You don't have to use a third-party ROM either; you can flash an updated stock ROM.

Really though, the latest update was the reason I rooted my phone and began playing around with various ROMS in the first place because I hated it so much.

But, if everything is working for you and you're happy there's no need to do anything.

If you want the latest 3.70 ROM just download the Sprint Lovers ROM. It's a stock but rooted ROM.

There is also a leaked Gingerbread available on XDA as well.

Please keep all rooting-related discussions in the rooting section. And please read the rooting section as if you do, you will find out that you should NEVER accept an OTA on a rooted phone, and how to update it.

Is it still recommended not to update? I'm still with 3.29 and been holding off. Will it get updated automatically with Gingerbread or are they 2 different things?

They are two different things. And I haven't seen many recommend not updating.

Really? I heard so many complains about battery drains, email acting up... And there aren't many benefits beside having swipe but I already have slideIt. But then, most discussions date from January. I'm wondering if there has been any improvements since then?
