I can't seem to get a straight answer when I research it myself but are task killers ok on 2.3 (evo)? I use auto run manager, start up cleaner 2.0, advanced task killer, process monitor, and super manager (which turns into a task killer).

No, its not. I would recommend against using all of those. Wouldn't let them anywhere near my phone, not ever.

I have two questions about this:

1.  Are your thoughts about start-up managers different from task klillers?  Are start-up managers recommended?  Or Not?

2.  I've read just enough about task killers to know that people who know more about them than I dodo  not recommend using them and the theory why.  What I don't understand is why on HTC's website, they recommend them for the Evo?

PS:  Not trying to open a can or worms, I am just curious about the contradiction.  I would think the HTC tech would be as smart as you guys. Huh?

1. Same thing, equally bad.

2. They used to be fine, and some swore by them, for pre-Froyo but once Froyo changed the way Android manages the phone, they are no longer needed and actually interfere with the phone's proper functioning and cause problems. Companies are notorious for not updating their websites very often.
