Sadly, after about 5 months with my evo, this same thing happened to me. Last night the phone quit charging, or would charge intermittently and only if I wiggled the cable. The usb port definitely feels lose, but no visual damage that I can see. I am getting ready to go to the Sprint store and see what happens. I hope I don't get the run around. Most probably the first thing they'll tell me is that I have to go through insurance. Would they give me a new phone right then and there if I just hand them the 100 bucks? I feel sad right now, I hope I don't come back pissed!  wink

Edit: The USB port was lose. Actually, it came off the motherboard. The techs from Sprint could not repair it and neither HTC nor Sprint would replace it. I had to go through Assurion to get a replacement. Bad phone! Bad!

I suddenly started having a really weird issue today. I think it would be best related to this thread.

My battery doesn't seem to be charging.... I'm at work right now and I plugged it into my laptop to transfer some pictures over. Then I got busy and left it plugged in for a while. When I got a chance to get back to what I was doing on my phone I kind of expected it to be fully charged for how long it was left on there. I checked the battery meter and it had actually gone down from about 70% to 48%.

The LED lights up indicating that it's plugged in, the battery meter shows it's charging, the battery status SAYS "Charging (USB)" and I can mount the device and access the USB card on my computer.... but my battery seems to be dropping like crazy. At the time of writing this it's now at 26%.

I have a Monaco 3500mAh Extended Battery. Not even with my normal somewhat-heavy use do I ever get my battery this low by this time of the day. At 3:30 it's almost always still above 50%. I'm wondering if it's my battery. I'm almost to the point where I'm going to swap it back to my stock battery.... but I dread the thought of going back to my 1500mAh battery.

I've tried restarting, I shut down and pulled the battery for a few minutes. That only seems to be making it die faster since it uses more battery power to boot up. I'm not rooted or anything so it's nothing I did wrong with any of that. I actually haven't done ANYTHING to it today other than the 4.24.651.1 update I got this morning.

I would swap it out with your other  battery to see if the same thing happens. If it does, its a phone issue. If it doesn't, its a battery issue.

It was the weirdest thing. I swapped my battery back to my stock battery and still had the problem. I went home and plugged it into the wall charger for a few minutes and noticed the battery actually did go up and it was charging. So I put my extended battery back in and it also showed that it was charging. I will plug it back into my laptop tonight and see if it goes back to charging like normal again too.

The weirdest part was that my extended battery drained so fast when I wasn't even using it as much as I normally do. Even if there was something wrong with my computer charging it, it still shouldn't have drained that fast.

Today my extended battery is back to kicking ass and at almost 4pm (off the charger since 7am) it's still at 75%. Which is back to normal. I don't know if it was an app causing the issue or what. I did uninstall a few apps that I had installed that day just in case they were the problem.

Are you sure it's a problem with the port? It hasn't happened again since. But the thing was that it was recognizing the USB cable. It could mount, it would say it was charging, it just wasn't.

No I leave that cord on my night stand to charge it at night. I'm using the cord I had from my Samsung Moment that I keep in my laptop case. It used the exact same type of USB cable. I use it all the time to charge it with my laptop and to transfer files from my laptop to my phone.

Just because it uses the same plug size doesn't mean it will work well from one phone to another. If I was a betting person, I'd bet that the cord is the issue. Not all cords will charge equally well, and some cords are data transfer only cords, while others will transfer data and charge simultaneously.

Sorry haven't been on in a couple of days but same thing happened to me, I replaced the cord several times thinking it was the problem till phone shorted out my 3500mah and my 1800mah batteries sprint replaced it(phone and one stock battery) for free. But i lost root my replacement was preloaded with the 4.24.x update.

Angry Ugh... wish I had found this group much earlier. I guess better late then never..

I have had my Evo for quite a while now, and I have had a longstanding issue with it not charging on many occasions. I have purchased at least 4 separate charging cords with this phone. I've replaced the battery at least twice. I have taken it into Sprint at least twice, and the last time which was less then a month ago they just said there was a short in the battery and exchanged it. I have dealt with the phone not charging unless the cord is bent over backwards and pointing towards the andes. I have had at least two instances where it has completely died at a friends house, refusing to charge in any outlet, but as soon as I got home all of a sudden it would charge. No matter what however, Sprint always wrote it off as a problem with the cord or battery. Though I suspected and even told them flat out I thought it was the port, they ignored me.

I have written customer care tonight describing my issues and demanding an exchange. I don't want any freebies etc but I think as much as I pay per month I should at least have access to a phone that will charge and work 100% of the time, not whenever it feels like it. I'm also very annoyed that this seems to be a known defect with the Evo, yet many seem to be experiencing hassle or challenges from representatives when attempting to set up an exchange including myself. This time, if I am not allowed to exchange this device (and yes I have the insurance AND a preferred customer, and still have been sterred away from exchanging) i'm taking by business elsewhere. And buying another model phone.

Irritated beyond belief..
