Default What we can all do to get at least some jobs back in America

WAs sent to me.

Any time you call an 800 number (for a credit card, banking,
charter communications, health and other insurance, computer help desk, etc)and you find that you're talking to a foreign customer service
representative (perhaps in India, Philippines, etc), please consider doing
the following:

After you connect and you realize that the customer service
representative is not from the USA (you can always ask if you are not sure
about the accent), please, very politely (very politely - this is not about
trashing other cultures) say, "I'd like to speak to a customer service
representative in the United States of America ."
The rep might suggest talking to his/her manager, but,
again, politely say, "Thank you, but I'd like to speak to a customer service
representative in the USA ." YOU WILL BE IMMEDIATELY CONNECTED to a rep in
the USA . That's the rule and the LAW.

It takes less than one minute to have your call re-directed
to the USA . Tonight when I got redirected to a USA rep, I asked again to make sure - and yes, she was from Fort Lauderdale .
If tomorrow every US citizen who has to make such a call,
and then requests a U.S. rep, imagine how that would ultimately impact the
number of US jobs that would need to be created ASAP. Imagine what would
happen if every US citizen insisted on talking to only US phone reps from
this day on. If I tell 10 people to consider this and you tell 10 people to
consider doing this - see what I mean...it becomes an exercise in viral
marketing 101.

Remember - the goal here is to restore jobs back here at home - not to be abrupt or rude to a foreign phone rep. You may even get correct answers, good advice, and solutions to your problem - in real English.

I would like to know exactly which "rule and the LAW" states that.

There is no such law.

Apologize for misinformation.

The email I was sent is an urban rumor. Did not verify before posting. Although legislation had been introduced as late as 2009 HR3621. Guess I was too trusting and wanted to believe our politicians had done at least one thing to help our economy. Will be more careful and suspicious when referring to something good coming out of the present administration.

Still think it is a good idea and would suggest asking for American based rep when calling customer support.

“Although the practice is not yet legislatively mandated, some U.S. companies have established policies and procedures of their own that instruct foreign call operators to transfer calls back to U.S. based reps upon request”

That would be great indeed if such a law was in place. The problem is companies are allowed to do what they want and all we will be doing now is give them more tax incentives and hope they keep business state side.

Let us hope politicians care enough for America as Americans do.

With our luck, their customer reps in the US probably don't speak English.

Theoretically, it would be nice, sure. In reality, it would cause more businesses to go out of business. Forcing companies to hire people they can't afford is a sure way to drive businesses into the ground.

Interestingly, I read a news article last week about an outsource CS company in India that is now outsourcing their jobs to the U.S.

It's convenient to see only one side of the equation. The more jobs outsourced overseas, the fewer Americans are employed. The fewer Americans employed, the fewer goods and services are purchased.

Businesses do not simply go out of business if the cost of labor goes up. They do what they've done since the beginning of time, they pass the cost on to the consumer. Oops, that's not quite right, they pass the per centage of the cost increase on to the consumer, so when their costs go up, so do their profits. Can anyone say GREED?

Sorry, are we supposed to feel bad because companies are in the business of making money? That people don't run every business in the country to be philanthropic ventures?

Not asking them to become charities. I'm asking them to show some enlightened self-interest. The more jobs they remove from this country, the more people get nervous about their own jobs and the less they spend on anything that isn't absolutely essential. Businesses that oursource, are ultimately their own worst enemies.

The only ones that get around that fact, are the international corporations that decided to **** with America, they would sell to the world and use the cheapest labor on the planet. But, they don't care. They have no loyalty to the US, but only to where they can get the best deal.

About a year ago, I had a conversation with a supermarket manager, to whom I complained about their replacing cashiers with automated checkouts. He asked me if I wanted to pay more for lettuce. I told him that if it contributed to a healthier economy, I wouldn't mind. Then I asked him a question. If all the businesses in this city used the same approach and began laying off workers for automated methods, who in this city would be able to purchase food at his supermarket?

The idea that all things can be accomplished by only dealing with one side of the equation, is illogical. We either thrive together or we will surely fail separately.
